Ranma ½ topped Animate Times readers’ Fall 2024 anime recommendations, followed by Dandadan and Natsume’s Book of Friends Season 7. The ranking came from a reader poll about which shows people wanted to keep watching and recommend—not an official national ranking or a representative survey of Japan.
How Animate Times ranked Fall 2024 anime
Animate Times ran its poll from October 23 through November 6, 2024, then published the results on November 16. Its prompts asked readers which shows made them “curious to see what happens next,” which they wanted to watch through the final episode, and which they wanted everyone to watch. The Japanese wording was “続きが気になる,” “最終回まで見たい,” and “みんなに見てほしい.”

The result is best understood as a ranking of reader enthusiasm during the season. The published article does not state the number of respondents, vote shares, confidence intervals, or demographic breakdown, so the ordinal ranking should not be treated as a statistical measure of all Japanese anime viewers.

Why another Fall 2024 ranking put Orb first
Orb: On the Movements of the Earth ranked fourth in Animate Times’ reader poll, but first in Filmarks’ separate anticipation ranking. Filmarks counted users’ Clip! “want to watch” saves for anime scheduled to begin broadcasting or streaming between September 1 and November 30, using data current as of September 20, 2024. Its top title had 4,856 saves.
The two results measure different things at different points in the season. Filmarks captured advance interest before most of the season had aired; Animate Times polled readers after the season began about continuing through the finale and recommending shows. The difference is not a contradiction, and the Filmarks save count is not a vote total for the Animate Times poll.
Rank #2
What the ranking can—and cannot—tell you
- It can show: which titles rose to the top among Animate Times readers responding to prompts about curiosity, finishing a series, and recommending it during Fall 2024.
- It cannot establish: which anime was most watched in Japan, which was best reviewed, or what the entire Japanese audience preferred.
- It is a snapshot: the poll ran during the season, so it records reader sentiment in that period rather than a timeless judgment of the shows.
Following Dandadan beyond the ranking
Animate Times identifies Dandadan as a manga by Yukinobu Tatsu. Readers who want to continue with the story beyond the anime can look for the manga in their preferred language and format; the poll itself does not indicate where or whether the adaptation is currently streaming.
