Remembering lines well is not the same as retaining any page or image as a perfect mental snapshot.
What reports say about Spader’s memory
TV Guide’s biography says Spader has claimed a photographic memory that lets him remember scripts verbatim. The entry does not identify the original interview or statement behind that claim.

A 2022 Infobae profile repeats the description and says he can repeat lines after glancing at a script. The passage does not document a test or provide independent confirmation of the ability.
What “photographic memory” would mean
The phrase usually suggests a person can preserve a visual scene or page like a photograph and later inspect it without error. BrainFacts, an educational resource of the Society for Neuroscience, explains that human memory does not work as a perfect mental snapshot: recollection reconstructs information and can leave details out. Neuroscientist Larry Squire’s answer on the site states, “However, photographic memory does not exist in this sense.”

BrainFacts’ explanation addresses the literal snapshot idea, not Spader’s personal abilities. Scientific American similarly distinguishes striking visual memory from a perfectly reproduced image. Strong recall in one area does not establish perfect recall across other kinds of information, as discussed in Scientific American’s account of exceptional memory.

The published accounts support saying that Spader is reported to have unusually strong script recall. They do not establish that he can reproduce arbitrary pages or images flawlessly, nor do they show that his memory has been formally assessed. Memorizing lines may involve attention, rehearsal, repetition, familiarity, or other ordinary learning processes; the reports do not establish which methods Spader uses.
So the careful answer is: the claim is repeated in entertainment coverage, but literal photographic memory is not verified. Being able to learn or recall scripts unusually well is a narrower claim than having perfect visual recall.
