No court ruling shows Robbie Williams defeating Jimmy Page. The dispute was a planning matter: a council reportedly granted conditional permission in 2018 for an underground pool at Williams’s home, while a later proposal for an underground gym and pool was deferred in April 2025 pending further legal assurances. The sources available here do not establish what happened to that later application.

What were Robbie Williams and Jimmy Page arguing about?

Williams proposed underground construction at his west London home, including a swimming pool and gym. Jimmy Page, whose neighboring home is Tower House, objected because he feared excavation, ground movement and vibration could damage the Grade I-listed property. Page described the potential harm as “catastrophic,” according to 2018 reporting.

The issue was whether the proposed work should receive planning permission—not a lawsuit in which one neighbor defeated the other. The available reports describe decisions by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, not a court judgment.

What happened, and when?

Date Procedural stage What was reported
2018 Earlier pool proposal The Independent reported that plans for an underground pool at Williams’s Grade II-listed home had received conditional planning permission after what it called a five-year planning battle. This was a planning decision, not a court victory.
June 12, 2018 Page’s comments ITV News interviewed Page about protecting his home and the surrounding coverage.
April 22, 2025; reported April 23 Later gym-and-pool proposal The Associated Press reported that the planning committee deferred the proposal until further legal assurances were received. A deferral is not a final approval or refusal.
Later outcome Not established The sources cited here do not establish whether the 2025 proposal was subsequently approved or refused.

What did Jimmy Page say?

In a June 12, 2018 interview, ITV News attributed this statement to Page: “I think what happened was there’s been a smokescreen of nonsense, this sort of idiotic stuff of ‘Jimmy Page sleeping is sleeping in his garden’ and all this sort of nonsense.” The awkward wording is reproduced as reported. Page was referring to the story about him sleeping in his garden; “idiotic” was not a court’s characterization of the planning dispute.

After the 2025 deferral, the Associated Press quoted Page saying: “I’m only the custodian to pass it on to the next person in the same way I bought it from Richard Harris.”

Did Robbie Williams get permission to build an underground pool?

For the earlier proposal, the 2018 report says conditional planning permission was granted. That does not establish that the later proposal had the same outcome: in April 2025, the committee deferred a subsequent underground gym-and-pool proposal while awaiting further legal assurances. The final status of that later application is not established by these reports.
