The precise date and the bar’s exact name are not established by the accounts cited here. It is safest to describe it simply as a Miami bar where Barroso was working.
How did their first conversation begin?
Damon told The Irish Times that he went out with crew members on a night off. When patrons recognized him and came over for photographs, the bar’s manager invited him behind the counter. Barroso, who was bartending, told him he could not simply stand there: if he was going to be behind the bar, he had to work. Damon said he had tended bar before, so he started serving customers and talking with them—and with Barroso.

Damon recalled the exchange as playful. He said Barroso first told him, “you can’t be here,” then added, “if you can be back here, you got to work” (The Irish Times, 2021).

Damon said he saw Barroso across a crowded room and joked that a beam of light seemed to surround her. He recalled her teasing him that it was simply the light in the room, “you dummy.” That beam-of-light image is Damon’s recollection, not an independently established detail of the venue.

Barroso later described an immediate connection and an easy conversation: “We definitely had a connection right away; it was so easy to talk to each other,” she said, adding, “We were very comfortable.” The Miami Herald reported those comments from her 2018 Vogue Australia interview (Miami Herald, 2023).
