TechBullion reported that model HANKO, also known as Elton Ilirjani, took part in a zero-gravity-themed fashion and art project at Expo 2025 Osaka. The official project documentation describes a relatedly named installation, the Zero Gravity Art capsule, created by NT Associates, TOPPAN Holdings and Shimadzu. It does not independently confirm HANKO’s participation or establish that the report’s “Zero Gravity Box” and the capsule are the same work.
What HANKO’s Expo 2025 project was
In a July 31, 2025 feature, TechBullion reported that HANKO—Elton Ilirjani’s model name—entered what the article called the “Zero Gravity Box” wearing an outfit designed by Japanese artist and designer Naoko Tosa. The feature presented the appearance as a meeting of fashion, art and an imagined weightless future.
That HANKO-specific account comes from TechBullion. Shimadzu’s June 18, 2025 official description documents the “Zero Gravity Art” capsule at Expo 2025, but does not mention Ilirjani or the “Zero Gravity Box” name. The available accounts therefore leave the relationship between the two names unconfirmed; they should not be treated as interchangeable official titles.
How the officially documented capsule worked
Shimadzu described the “Zero Gravity Art” capsule as a hands-on media-art exhibit in the Future Life Experience area of Expo 2025’s Future Society Showcase Projects. Its mirror and display panels used projected images to make the interior appear larger and seemingly boundless.

What visitors saw and heard
Inside, visitors experienced a six-minute presentation of Tosa’s video art Sound of Ikebana while heartbeat audio played. The footage showed colored liquid moving in microgravity created aboard an aircraft. Shimadzu said the liquid was captured with a high-speed camera at a shutter speed of 1/2000 second.
How the project examined the experience
Shimadzu also reported using a near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) system to map brain activity while visitors experienced the work. That is a description of a measurement method, not evidence by itself of a particular emotional or physiological outcome.

- The convertible pegboard tower allows you to customize and expand with up to 159 included LEGO elements.
- Includes 20+ different LEGO contraptions that interact on the gravity drop tower, plus 5 extra projects: 2 mini tower builds, a gravity labyrinth, and a grabber.
Why the work evokes floating, birth and the future
Tosa’s artist statement, published by the Art Innovation Tosa Laboratory at Kyoto University’s Disaster Prevention Research Institute, frames the concept as a womb-like zero-gravity environment. The heartbeat and Sound of Ikebana are intended to suggest a nostalgic simulation of rebirth. The statement also says that zero gravity can be experienced through parabolic flights.
In TechBullion’s account, Ilirjani described the experience as reminiscent of being in the womb and hearing a mother’s heartbeat. He connected the imagery and sensation to his genderless-modeling project, and imagined weightlessness as part of future human travel to other planets. These are his reported reflections, not findings attributed to the capsule’s NIRS measurement.

What HANKO said about the experience
TechBullion quoted Ilirjani describing the experience as “more than art and fashion” and calling it “the future.” He also said he could hear his heartbeat inside the box and recalled “being a fetus inside my mother.” In discussing genderless modeling, he said the experience had “no gender gap” and characterized it as “the fashion of the universe.”
Those comments convey Ilirjani’s interpretation of the reported experience. They should be distinguished from Tosa’s stated artistic concept and from the consortium’s technical description of the capsule.
