One Direction have not announced a reunion plan. Before Liam Payne’s death, Harry Styles said he would “never say never,” Niall Horan said the members had not discussed reuniting, and Louis Tomlinson said he was open to the idea. In 2025, Tomlinson said he could not foresee feeling comfortable with a reunion after Payne’s death. Those are dated personal comments—not evidence that a show or tour is in the works.

Harry Styles: “I would never say never”
On the April 27, 2023, final episode of The Late Late Show with James Corden, Styles was asked whether One Direction would reunite. He replied: “I fear that it’s not a yes or no question. I think I would never say never to that. If there was a time when we wanted to do it, I don’t see why we wouldn’t.” Seventeen reported the exchange.

His answer left the door open only as a hypothetical: it set no date, format, or commitment. The same coverage said a rumor that the other members would join the show had been denied by the program.
In a March 2026 Apple Music interview with Zane Lowe, Styles spoke about grief and his friendship with Payne. The Guardian’s account of that interview did not report a reunion answer, so it should not be treated as one. The Guardian’s March 4, 2026 report covered those reflections.

Louis Tomlinson: open in 2024, more hesitant after Payne’s death
A 2024 roundup quoted Tomlinson saying, “Getting back together at some point is hard to imagine right now.” He also said he would be surprised if they went through life without a reunion moment and that he would be up for it. His comments expressed openness, not a plan or agreed format. Just Jared’s 2024 roundup collected the statements available at the time.
In an interview reported by Rolling Stone in October 2025, Tomlinson described a reunion as “infinitely more complicated” after Payne’s death. He said: “Right now, I can’t foresee a time where I would actually feel comfortable doing that.” He also said a lineup of himself, Horan, Styles, and Zayn Malik would “feel like something else, almost.” Rolling Stone Australia/New Zealand published the report on October 9, 2025.

Tomlinson said that before Payne died, he had expected the members might do “one big show”; now, he said, he would be “really surprised.” He also acknowledged that Payne would have campaigned strongly for the group to return. Taken together, the comments describe an emotional change in Tomlinson’s own outlook—not a declaration that a reunion could never happen.
Niall Horan: the reunion conversation had not happened
Around the release of his 2023 album The Show, Horan said the members spoke regularly but had not discussed reuniting. He did not know whether it would happen or what it might look like, distinguishing the possibilities of a one-off appearance and a full tour. Regular contact among former bandmates is not the same as planning a reunion. NME reported Horan’s comments.

Liam Payne: uncertain about whether it would happen
The 2024 roundup reported that Payne had said he did not know whether a reunion would happen, while noting that the members were in touch through a group chat. That was uncertainty, not confirmation of active plans.
Zayn Malik: no direct position established here
The same 2024 roundup said Malik had not been asked about a reunion in the recent interviews it reviewed. A video of him singing one of the group’s songs prompted fan speculation, but performing a song is not a reunion statement. No direct post-Payne-death reunion answer from Malik is established by the cited coverage; it would be misleading to assign him a position.

What the surviving members said after Liam Payne died
After Payne died in October 2024, the surviving members—Horan, Tomlinson, Styles, and Malik—said they were devastated and needed time to grieve. Their joint statement, reported by the Associated Press on October 17, said: “We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing. In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly. The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever.” Read the Associated Press report. It was a tribute and a request for space, not a reunion announcement.

There is no established answer from the band as a whole. Tomlinson’s 2025 comments make clear that, for him, a four-member lineup would feel fundamentally different and that he could not then foresee feeling comfortable with it. His remarks should not be turned into a definitive decision on behalf of the other surviving members—or a permanent ruling about the future.

The distinction matters because “reunion” can mean very different things: a one-off appearance, a single large show, a tour, or a return to performing as the original group. Horan mentioned the difference between one appearance and a tour in 2023; Tomlinson later spoke specifically about the altered lineup after Payne’s death. None of those comments establishes that the members have agreed on any format.
So, will One Direction reunite?
The statements cited here do not establish a reunion plan. Styles left open a hypothetical possibility in 2023; Horan said they had not discussed it; and Tomlinson’s outlook shifted from openness in 2024 to marked hesitation after Payne’s death. The available statements are snapshots from particular interviews, not a guarantee about what the members may decide later.
