The available listing for Matt Smith’s April 2024 appearance on Headliners with Nihal Arthanayake says the interview raised whether the Doctor Who star had considered teaming up with celebrity friends to buy Blackburn Rovers. It does not provide his answer. So the claim that Smith revealed a “dream” to buy the club is not established by the listing alone.
What the 2024 interview listing confirms
The Metacast listing, dated 2 April 2024, identifies a question about Smith potentially joining with celebrity friends to buy Blackburn Rovers. It establishes that the subject came up; it does not show that Smith said he wanted to buy the club, described a takeover as a dream, made an offer, or had a concrete plan. Metacast’s episode listing is not a transcript of his response.
Accordingly, “reveals dream” should be treated as wording from the original report, not as a verified quotation or confirmed description of Smith’s intentions. The available material does not settle what he said in response.
Smith’s connection to Blackburn Rovers
Smith is a Blackburn Rovers supporter. WIRED’s interview transcript identifies the club as his team, and BBC Sport also described him as a fan when reporting his comments in 2013. WIRED’s interview and BBC Sport’s 2013 report establish that connection, but neither verifies a later purchase plan.

What he said about the club in 2013
On 19 March 2013, BBC Sport reported Smith’s criticism of Blackburn’s then-management. Speaking to BBC Radio 5 live, he said: “It was an absolute farce, it’s a joke, it’s being run by complete numpties.” That is a historical comment about the club’s management at the time, not evidence of his current position or a bid to buy the team.
The Independent also reported a separate 2013 comment from Smith: “It breaks my heart to see foreign owners come in to football clubs, promise all sorts of things and deliver nothing.” It should likewise be read in its original context and date, rather than as a statement about a 2024 takeover idea. The Independent’s 2013 report said the Rao family had bought Blackburn Rovers for £23 million in November 2010.

What is known about the Venky’s reference
BBC Sport’s 2013 account dates the Rao family takeover associated with the Venky’s brand to November 2010. This is historical context only; that report does not establish the club’s current ownership. Nor does the historical takeover information confirm that Smith has proposed replacing the owners.
