No. Reports about Catherine, Princess of Wales, missing Royal Ascot on June 18, 2025, did not announce or substantiate a new health development. They described her absence as part of a gradual return to public engagements after cancer treatment. The event listing had included her name, but that was not confirmation she had committed to attend.
Which missed event does the headline refer to?
The strongest match is Royal Ascot’s second day on June 18, 2025, although the exact headline could not be matched to a source. The word “meeting” could also suggest a different event: in July 2026, AOL discussed Catherine’s private meeting with Australian philanthropist Nicola Forrest. That article speculated about possible future projects, not a health announcement. The two events should not be conflated.
What happened at Royal Ascot?
Catherine’s name appeared in the royal carriage procession listing, but the listing did not establish that she had confirmed attendance. ABC News reported that her name was included in error and that Kensington Palace had not confirmed she would be there. The Guardian reported that Kensington Palace confirmed she would not attend, and Ascot issued a revised carriage list.
Contemporary coverage placed the absence in the context of Catherine’s gradual return to public duties. In the weeks before Royal Ascot, she had appeared at Trooping the Colour, the Order of the Garter service and a visit to V&A East Storehouse. ABC News quoted a royal source saying: “The princess is disappointed not to be there today but she has to find the right balance as she fully returns to public facing engagements.”

The Independent noted that it was her second consecutive year missing Royal Ascot. Ailsa Anderson, a former communications secretary to Queen Elizabeth II, described the decision as sensible and said Catherine was listening to her body while easing back into public life. That was Anderson’s assessment, not a medical statement from Catherine or Kensington Palace.
What was publicly known about her health?
The Guardian and ABC News reported that Catherine had received cancer treatment and announced in January 2025 that she was in remission. The Guardian said her treatment had ended in September 2024. ABC News reported that she had disclosed chemotherapy treatment. Neither outlet reported the type of cancer, which had not been publicly disclosed in the coverage.

Those facts provide context for her return to public engagements, but they do not turn her Royal Ascot absence into a health announcement. The contemporary reports do not say that the missed event signaled a new diagnosis, a change in her condition or another undisclosed development.

In a June 28, 2026 report, ITV said Catherine remained in remission and had completed the National Three Peaks Challenge. This is later context, not evidence of what her 2025 absence meant or what she intended by it.
