Creative Writing: Drama Module Q2 is a learning module about reading and writing drama—not a play script or a study of one particular tragedy. A Scribd listing reproducing a Philippine Senior High School Quarter 2, Module 1 document titled Reading and Writing Drama describes a sequence that moves from dramatic elements and intertextuality to planning a one-act play, choosing a staging arrangement, and writing a scene. The listing attributes the material to the Philippine Department of Education, but its repost does not independently establish the attribution or whether the module remains part of the current curriculum. What is the module about?
The module is an instructional resource intended to build senior high school students’ skills in reading and writing drama. Its stated objectives include identifying dramatic elements, techniques, and literary devices; understanding intertextuality; developing character, setting, and plot for a one-act play; exploring staging modalities; and writing a scene.
The listing describes lessons, activities, assessments, and answer keys. Its overall sequence connects analysis to practice: students first study how drama works, then consider how texts relate to one another, and apply those ideas while planning and writing a play.
What topics does it cover?
Dramatic elements and literary devices
The opening lessons introduce elements and techniques used in drama, including character and dramatic structure. The module also covers comedy and tragedy. The title’s reference to tragedy is therefore part of a wider introduction to dramatic forms, not evidence that the document focuses on a single tragic work.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Intertextuality
The module presents intertextuality as relationships between texts, which can be direct or indirect. It discusses allusion, parody, quotation, appropriation, and adaptation as ways writers may draw on or transform existing texts.
These concepts help students notice how a new play can echo, respond to, or reshape earlier material. When using another writer’s words or ideas, students should identify and acknowledge their sources; the module’s discussion should not be treated as a universal legal definition of plagiarism.

Planning and writing a one-act play
Students are guided to conceptualize a character, setting, and plot for a one-act play, then write a scene. This makes the module more than a glossary of dramatic terms: its stated learning goals connect reading and analysis with original dramatic writing.
Staging modalities
The listing names three arrangements for staging: proscenium, traverse, and arena. They differ in where the audience sits in relation to the performance space. Because the available listing does not establish detailed production advantages for each arrangement, treat these as options to consider while planning rather than as prescriptions about which is best.

How should a student use the module?
- Work through the lessons in sequence. Start with dramatic elements and devices, then move to intertextuality, one-act play planning, staging, and scene writing.
- Keep a separate activity notebook. The module instructs students to write answers to tests, activities, and exercises in a separate notebook. It does not specify a brand or particular notebook type.
- Apply the concepts to a scene. Use character, setting, and plot to shape a one-act-play idea, and consider how the chosen staging arrangement affects the relationship between performance space and audience.
- Acknowledge source material. If a scene quotes, adapts, or otherwise draws on another text, make the source relationship clear and follow the relevant classroom or assignment requirements.
