You can still explore Vacasa’s tour page, but it does not say the property is currently open to guests. If you came looking for the story itself, the relevant book is Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
What was the Grinch cave rental?
Vacasa and Dr. Seuss Enterprises announced the themed stay on November 30, 2021. The cave home was just outside Boulder, Utah, and was styled as the Grinch’s remote mountain hideaway. According to Vacasa’s 2021 announcement, the multilevel, hand-carved home measured 5,700 square feet and included two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, a library, a music room and a pipe organ.
The promotion tied its price to the book’s publication year: Vacasa advertised a rate of $19.57 per night, a reference to the story’s original 1957 release. That was the promotional rate for the 2021 event, not a price available now.
When could guests stay—and can you reserve it now?
Bookings opened December 3, 2021, for stays from December 13 through December 23, 2021. Those dates have passed, and Vacasa’s cave tour page says the giveaway ended. The page offers a look at the experience and its images; it does not establish that the cave is currently bookable or that visitors can access the property.

What were the cave’s access and travel conditions?
For the event, Vacasa described the setting as remote, advised guests to bring their own food and beverages, and recommended a crossover or larger vehicle for the access trail. These were tips for the 2021 promotion, not confirmation of current road conditions, access, or permission to visit. Do not treat the tour page as an invitation to drive to or enter the property.
Where to find the Grinch story
The book behind the theme is Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas! It is a fitting companion if you want the source story, but buying a copy does not provide access to the former rental. The 2021 announcement links the cave experience to the book’s 1957 release year.
