The latest Best New Artist Grammy winner is Olivia Dean, honored at the 2026 ceremony. The four winners before her were Chappell Roan, Victoria Monét, Samara Joy and Olivia Rodrigo. The award marks a breakthrough during a defined eligibility period; it does not, by itself, establish what an artist’s career will look like afterward. Here is what the verified record shows—and where it leaves questions unanswered.
What the Best New Artist Grammy recognizes
The Recording Academy says the award recognizes an artist “whose eligibility-period release(s) achieved a breakthrough into the public consciousness and notably impacted the musical landscape.” Its category page also says an eligible artist must have released at least five singles or tracks, or one album. Those are the Academy’s stated criteria on its Best New Artist category page; category rules can change over time.
That definition describes recognition of a breakthrough in an eligibility period, not a forecast of future fame or a guarantee that the award caused later success. The Academy’s qualitative reflections on life after a Grammy discuss recognition and collaboration as possible effects, but do not establish a universal outcome or prove causation (The Impact Of A GRAMMY Win: Life After The Award).

What is documented about the winners’ lives after the award?
Olivia Dean — 2026
Dean is the most recent winner: she received Best New Artist at the February 1, 2026 ceremony. That result establishes her place in the award’s history, but the sources cited here do not provide a broader, current account of her post-win releases, touring or other career developments.

Chappell Roan — 2025
In her 2025 acceptance speech, Roan called on record labels to pay artists fairly, the Recording Academy reported. It is a documented example of advocacy at the moment of her win, not evidence on its own of what followed in her career (2025 GRAMMYs: Chappell Roan Wins Best New Artist, Calls On Labels To Do Better). The Academy’s report supports the subject of her remarks; use a checked transcript or recording for any verbatim quotation.
Victoria Monét, Samara Joy and Olivia Rodrigo — 2022–2024
Monét won in 2024, Joy in 2023 and Rodrigo in 2022. Those results are confirmed in the Academy’s category listing and awards archive. The sources cited here do not establish a complete, up-to-date profile of what each has done since winning, so the award record should not be mistaken for a full career update.

Earlier winners — 2017–2021
The Academy’s record names Megan Thee Stallion (listed as Megan Pete), Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Alessia Cara and Chance the Rapper as the winners from 2021 back through 2017. The official archive confirms their award years, but the materials cited here do not document a consistent set of current career milestones for all five. A meaningful winner-by-winner update would need current, individually sourced release, touring or career announcements rather than inference from the Grammy result.

A winner list is a reliable record of who received the category’s honor in each ceremony year. It is not a measure of the award’s effect on sales, streams, touring or long-term visibility. No named statistical study or numerical career-outcome figure is established by the cited sources. The Academy’s article on life after a Grammy offers qualitative perspectives from featured winners, not independent proof that winning causes commercial success.

So the most accurate answer to “Where are they now?” is uneven: the award history is clear, and Roan’s fair-pay appeal is specifically documented, but these sources do not amount to a complete present-day biography of every winner. For individual updates, look for dated artist or label announcements and current tour listings, distinguishing confirmed activity from plans that have only been announced.
