The Stranger Things 5 finale played in a limited fan-screening event at more than 500 participating theaters in the United States and Canada. Screenings began December 31, 2025, at 5 p.m. Pacific Time and continued through January 1, 2026. The event has ended; Netflix says the finale and all other episodes are now streaming on Netflix.
Will the Stranger Things 5 finale be in theaters?
It was, but only as a limited theatrical fan event—not as a broad, ongoing theatrical release. Netflix announced screenings in more than 500 theaters across the United States and Canada. That is Netflix’s announced count; the locations were not independently audited in the available reporting. The event was not described as a worldwide theater release or as an exclusive window before streaming.
The screenings started at the same time as the finale’s global Netflix premiere: December 31, 2025, at 5 p.m. PT. Theater screenings continued through January 1, 2026. Netflix reported the finale runtime as 2 hours and 5 minutes.
Can you still get tickets or watch it in theaters?
No current screenings or ticket availability are established by Netflix’s announcement. The theater event was time-limited and has passed. For viewers who missed it, Netflix’s January 1, 2026 coverage guide says the finale and every other episode are streaming on Netflix.

How the Season 5 release schedule worked
Netflix split the final season into three releases, each announced for 5 p.m. PT. The theater event coincided only with the finale’s New Year’s Eve release.
| Release | Episodes | Release date |
|---|---|---|
| Volume 1 | Four | November 26, 2025 |
| Volume 2 | Three | December 25, 2025 |
| The Finale | Final episode | December 31, 2025 |
Netflix’s Media Center season page lists the three premiere dates and the season’s official premise: set in fall 1987, the story finds Hawkins scarred by the opening of the Rifts, the group searching for the vanished Vecna, and the government quarantining the town while hunting Eleven.

What the creators said about the theater event
Series creators Matt and Ross Duffer said in Netflix Tudum’s announcement that they were excited for fans to experience the final episode in theaters, describing the big screen, sound, picture, and a room full of fans as a fitting way to celebrate the series. Their comments were quoted by Netflix Tudum, rather than given in a separate interview for this article.
