Spoilers through Season 4. The six central Pogues in Outer Banks are John B Routledge (Chase Stokes), Sarah Cameron (Madelyn Cline), JJ Maybank (Rudy Pankow), Kiara Carrera (Madison Bailey), Pope Heyward (Jonathan Daviss), and Cleo (Carlacia Grant). Netflix says Season 5 is the series’ final season, with all 10 episodes available to stream.
Who are the six main Pogues?
The Pogues are the close-knit group at the center of the treasure hunts. Their usual adversaries are the wealthy Kooks, though alliances shift. Sarah and Kiara complicate a simple class divide: both grew up connected to Figure 8, but identify with the Pogues.
| Actor | Character | Role and key relationships |
|---|---|---|
| Chase Stokes | John B Routledge | A central Pogue whose father, Big John, disappears while searching for the Royal Merchant treasure. John B’s own hunt begins after that disappearance. His relationship with Sarah links the Pogue and Cameron families. |
| Madelyn Cline | Sarah Cameron | Raised a Kook in wealthy Figure 8, Sarah joins the Pogues after becoming involved with John B and the treasure hunt. She is Ward’s daughter and Rafe and Wheezie’s sister. By Season 4, she and John B are expecting their first child. |
| Rudy Pankow | JJ Maybank | John B’s fiercely loyal childhood friend and an impulsive Pogue. Season 4 reveals Chandler Groff is JJ’s biological father; Groff kills JJ in the finale. |
| Madison Bailey | Kiara “Kie” Carrera | Raised in Figure 8, Kiara is accepted as a Pogue by her friends. She is Anna and Mike Carrera’s daughter, and her romantic relationship with JJ becomes explicit in Season 3. |
| Jonathan Daviss | Pope Heyward | The cautious, studious Pogue. His family history and descent from Denmark Tanny shape important Season 2 treasure revelations. He and Cleo become a couple; Pope shoots Lightner in the Season 4 finale. |
| Carlacia Grant | Cleo | A resourceful newcomer who joins the Pogues and becomes Pope’s partner. In Season 4, Lightner kidnaps her and kills Terrance; Pope rescues her. |
Which Kooks and Cameron family members matter?
The Kooks are the wealthy social group usually opposed to the Pogues. Cameron family loyalties—and changing relationships—make that divide personal.
| Actor | Character | Affiliation and connection |
|---|---|---|
| Drew Starkey | Rafe Cameron | Sarah’s brother and Ward’s son. Often an adversary to the Pogues, Rafe repairs his relationship with Sarah in Season 4 and agrees to help search for the Blue Crown. Season 5 brings an uneasy alliance with the Pogues. |
| Austin North | Topper | A wealthy Kook and Sarah’s former boyfriend. His jealousy and anger fuel serious conflict with John B and the Pogues. By Season 4, he is dating Ruthie. |
| Fiona Palomo | Sofia | Introduced in Season 3 as Rafe’s romantic interest. In Season 4 she draws him into a questionable development deal, accepts his proposal, and is later found out by him. |
| Charles Esten | Ward Cameron | Sarah and Rafe’s father, a real-estate developer whose pursuit of the Royal Merchant treasure drives conflict in the family. He sacrifices himself to save Sarah in the Season 3 finale. |
| Caroline Arapoglou | Rose Cameron | Ward’s wife and stepmother to Sarah, Rafe, and Wheezie. She is willing to scheme alongside Ward. |
| Mia Challis | Ruthie | A volatile character who develops a close relationship with Topper; they are dating by Season 4. |
Who drives the treasure hunts and family mysteries?
Parents and older allies are not background figures in Outer Banks: their ambitions and secrets repeatedly shape the younger characters’ choices.

How the Pogues’ family ties shape the story
Three fathers connect the treasure plot to the central characters’ family conflicts: Big John’s disappearance starts John B’s hunt; Ward’s pursuit of treasure puts Sarah and Rafe inside the Cameron conflict; and Groff’s identity and actions transform JJ’s story. Pope’s Denmark Tanny ancestry likewise ties his family history to the treasure revelations.
The show’s reach is substantial: Netflix said in its August 20, 2026 Season 5 guide that the first four seasons had nearly 200 million views, and that the series had appeared on the Top 10 English TV List 25 times. Netflix did not provide a measurement methodology for the approximate view figure. The same guide quotes co-creator Josh Pate: “We’ve always known from the beginning what the last scene would be.”
