Spoilers for Mel Owens’ season of The Golden Bachelor. The Fantasy Suite episode hinted at the finale, but it did not make the outcome certain: Peg accepted Mel’s overnight invitation, while Cindy pressed him for clarity about their future and left when he could not offer the commitment she wanted. In hindsight, the contrast points toward how Mel’s relationships with the two women would continue.
What happened on Mel Owens’ Fantasy Suite dates?
For Week 7, Mel and his final two contestants traveled to Antigua for overnight dates. ABC previewed a dune-buggy adventure with one woman, a swim with stingrays with the other, and a romantic dinner that took an unexpected turn. ABC’s Week 7 feature names Hammock Cove Antigua and Galley Bay Resort & Spa among the locations.
In ABC11’s episode recap, Peg’s date includes the dune buggy and a dinner conversation about their relationship. Mel offered her the Fantasy Suite, and she accepted. During the conversation, Mel said, “I feel it, I feel it for sure,” and, as he considered how to express his feelings, “It’s now or never,” according to the recap.
Cindy’s date turned on a different question: whether Mel could give her a clear sense of his feelings and their future. She worried about the possibility that he might be with Peg when he was not with her. The important contrast was not simply that Peg had an overnight and Cindy did not; it was that Cindy wanted greater certainty than Mel was ready to provide.

Did the dates give away who Mel chose?
They foreshadowed the finale, rather than conclusively revealing it. Peg’s acceptance left their relationship open to continuing, while Cindy’s concerns exposed a mismatch over commitment. But the episode alone did not establish that viewers could know the ending for certain: an overnight date is not a guarantee of who will remain, and the dates are best read as clues in hindsight.
| What the dates showed | What it meant for the relationship |
|---|---|
| Peg accepted Mel’s Fantasy Suite invitation. | They continued exploring the relationship after the date. |
| Cindy asked for clarity about Mel’s feelings and their future. | Their differing expectations came into focus; she later left before an overnight date. |
| Mel did not give Cindy the certainty she wanted. | In the finale, she left rather than remain on hold while he decided. |
Why did Cindy leave The Golden Bachelor?
In the finale, Cindy left after Mel said he was not ready to propose. She said she did not want to be put on hold. ABC7’s finale recap quotes her saying, “I’m sorry, it’s not what I want.” Reflecting on the relationship after the show, Cindy said, “I don’t think I need to convince a man to love me.”

Her departure fits the tension introduced on the Fantasy Suite date: she wanted a direct answer about whether their relationship was moving toward the future she wanted, while Mel was not prepared to make that commitment. That is a more complete explanation than treating the absence of an overnight as the decisive event.
Did Peg and Mel get engaged?
No conventional engagement proposal is described in the finale recap. After Cindy left, Peg was the remaining contestant. Mel introduced her to his family and gave her a ring as a commitment to love and work out their future together. The show’s live segment later showed the two saying they were in love. The outcome was a commitment ring and a continuing relationship, not an engagement proposal.

Where were the Antigua dates filmed?
ABC’s Week 7 feature identifies Hammock Cove Antigua and Galley Bay Resort & Spa. Elite Island Resorts’ November 2025 press release says four of its properties appeared across the penultimate and finale episodes: Galley Bay Resort & Spa, Hammock Cove Antigua, Pineapple Beach Club Antigua, and The Verandah Antigua. That is the resort group’s account of its properties’ role in filming, not an ABC endorsement of the resorts.
