Severance season 3 has no officially announced premiere date. Adam Scott said filming was underway by August 2026, and he has described the goal as releasing the season sooner than the three-year gap between the first two seasons. That is an aim, not a confirmed schedule; any 2027 window remains an estimate.
When will Severance season 3 come out?
Apple has not announced a premiere date in the latest cited status report. TheWrap reported on August 25, 2026, that Adam Scott said shooting was officially underway and had been going on for a few weeks. Filming having started does not establish when the season will be released. TheWrap’s August 2026 report did not give an official release date.

What does the Apple TV+ executive update mean?
The headline’s executive update refers to comments from Matt Cherniss, then described as Apple TV+’s programming head, in July 2025. At that point, Cherniss said the team was moving toward production but did not believe a start date had been set. He also said nobody wanted another three-year gap. His comments described the situation then; later reporting that filming had begun supersedes that production-status snapshot.
Cherniss said: “I know they’re going as quickly as they can. When you have the success of a show like ‘Severance,’ you want to make sure you deliver on every level when the show comes back, and that takes some time. But they’re on it”. He also said: “No one wants it to be another three year gap… I don’t believe that we have a production start date yet, but we’re moving in that direction”. The Hollywood Reporter’s July 2025 update contains those comments.

Why a 2027 release is still only an estimate
Adam Scott said in May 2026: “We’re definitely planning on getting it out much sooner than the last round, which was three years, which is too long.” That supports the conclusion that the team wants a shorter wait than the reported gap between seasons 1 and 2. It does not promise a release year or date. 9to5Mac’s May 2026 report also relayed an outlet estimate of mid-to-late 2027 based on expected filming timing. Treat that window as a forecast, not an Apple announcement.
The three-year gap is historical context, not a reliable countdown for season 3. The useful distinction is between confirmed milestones and projections:
Rank #2
- Confirmed: Apple renewed Severance for season 3 on March 21, 2025. Apple’s renewal announcement also says the first and second seasons are streaming globally on Apple TV+.
- Reported: Scott said filming was underway by August 2026, according to TheWrap.
- Not confirmed: A premiere date or specific release window.
- Stated intention: Scott said the goal was to release the season sooner than the previous three-year wait.
- Estimate only: Mid-to-late 2027, as reported by 9to5Mac.
Where to watch while waiting
Apple says seasons 1 and 2 are streaming globally on Apple TV+. The renewal announcement does not establish availability details for season 3 beyond confirming the renewal.
