Halo’s PlayStation debut is no longer upcoming: Halo: Campaign Evolved, a ground-up remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign, launched on PS5 on July 28, 2026. It also released for Xbox Series X|S and PC, bringing Master Chief’s first campaign to PlayStation while adding new missions, weapons and co-op options.
When did Halo come to PlayStation?
Halo: Campaign Evolved launched globally on July 28, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Early access began July 23. Japan and select Asia-Pacific markets had a July 29 launch and July 24 early access. Halo Studios’ announcement and the game’s official story and editions page provide the release details.
This is the franchise’s first PlayStation release. When the announcement was made on October 24, 2025, Halo Studios Community Director Brian “ske7ch” Jarrard wrote, “Today’s announcement is one I’ll never forget: Halo is coming to PlayStation.” He shared the statement in his PlayStation Blog post.
What kind of Halo game is Campaign Evolved?
It is a remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign, not a new mainline multiplayer release. The story has been rebuilt with updated visuals and cinematics, refined controls and updated audio. Executive Producer Damon Conn told Xbox Wire, “We wanted to start where it all began, with the original campaign that defined Halo.” The Xbox Wire interview with Halo Studios leads explains the team’s approach.
#1 Best Overall
- A CLASSIC REIMAGINED — Experience the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign rebuilt with high‑definition visuals, updated cinematics, refined controls, and a brand‑new three‑mission adventure.
- ENHANCED AUDIO & VISUALS — Relive every mission with modernized animations, a remastered soundtrack, and fully rebuilt sound design for deeper immersion across the Halo universe.
- NEW STORY CONTENT — Play as the Master Chief alongside Sgt. Johnson in Operation: Meteorite, a standalone campaign featuring new environments, enemies, and gameplay challenges.
- CO‑OP YOUR WAY — Play solo, in 2‑player split‑screen co‑op (console only), or up to 4‑player online co‑op with full crossplay and cross‑progression support.
- XBOX PLAY ANYWHERE — Play across XBOX Series X|S and Windows PCs at no additional cost, with shared progress and achievements across supported devices.
The original campaign remains the foundation, but the remake also adds three prequel missions featuring Master Chief and Sergeant Avery Johnson. Creative Director Max Szlagor said the team drew on lessons from Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, including the value of clearer wayfinding and navigation and greater variety in enemy encounters.
What does the remake add to the campaign?
- Nine additional weapons: The Energy Sword, Battle Rifle and Needle Rifle are among the additions.
- More vehicle options: Players can hijack vehicles and pilot a Wraith tank.
- Optional Skulls: These gameplay modifiers let players alter parts of the campaign experience.
Game Director Greg Hermann said the remake needed to deliver gameplay that is “100% authentically Halo at its core.” The additional content sits alongside the retold original campaign rather than changing what kind of game it is.

How do co-op and cross-play work?
| Mode | What is supported |
|---|---|
| Solo | Play the campaign alone. |
| Local co-op | Two-player split-screen on console. |
| Online co-op | Up to four players, with cross-play and cross-progression across Xbox Series X|S, PC and PS5. |
The PlayStation Store listing says online co-op on console requires PlayStation Plus, sold separately. That requirement applies to online console play; it is distinct from the two-player local split-screen option.
