Spoilers for Disney’s Snow White (2025). The remake keeps the poisoned apple and enchanted sleep, but makes Snow White’s role in the kingdom’s recovery central to the ending. Jonathan’s kiss wakes her; she then returns to confront the Evil Queen and help restore the people’s rule.
What happens at the end of Snow White (2025)?
The Evil Queen’s poisoned apple puts Snow White into the familiar enchanted sleep. Jonathan kisses her, breaking the curse and waking her. But the awakening is not the whole resolution: Snow White returns to face the Queen and takes part in recovering the kingdom.

That sequence preserves the story’s recognizable rescue beat while making Snow White an active participant in what follows. She is not simply carried from danger into a romantic ending; she helps oppose the ruler who has taken control.
Who is Jonathan, and is he the prince?
No. Jonathan, played by Andrew Burnap, is a bandit ally, not the prince from the animated classic. The Associated Press describes him as someone who encourages Snow White not to wait for her father to rescue her. His kiss still wakes her, but his role is not a straightforward replacement of the old prince in the same rescue story.

How does the ending differ from the 1937 animated film?
Disney released Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs on December 21, 1937. The 2025 film is described by Disney as a live-action musical reimagining of that classic. Its ending keeps the apple and kiss, but shifts the emphasis toward Snow White’s leadership and the kingdom’s restoration.
| Story element | 1937 animated film | 2025 remake |
|---|---|---|
| Male lead | The prince is part of the familiar romantic-rescue frame. | Jonathan is a bandit ally; the Associated Press review says the prince is removed. |
| Awakening | The poisoned-apple sleep is a signature fairy-tale beat. | The apple curses Snow White, and Jonathan’s kiss wakes her. |
| Final resolution | The familiar resolution centers on romantic rescue. | Snow White returns to confront the Queen and help reclaim the kingdom. |
Why the remake’s ending feels different
The film pairs familiar story shorthand—the apple, enchanted sleep, and awakening kiss—with a resolution in which Snow White returns to challenge the Queen. That combination changes the balance of the ending: romance remains, but it is no longer the sole mechanism of rescue or the endpoint of Snow White’s story.

- Experience this musical, live-action reimagining of Walt Disney's groundbreaking animated classic.
This is an interpretation of the story’s structure, not a verified statement of filmmaker intent. Disney presents the film as a musical reimagining; the ending’s emphasis on Snow White’s participation follows from what happens on screen and how the roles are described in the Associated Press review.
