Spoilers for the Season 2 finale, “When Noah Met Joanne.” Yes—Joanne and Noah reunite and kiss before the episode ends. Their breakup at Morgan’s engagement party gives way to a mutual choice: Joanne wants to explore conversion for herself, while Noah decides he wants to be with her whether or not she converts. The finale does not show her completing conversion, and it leaves that decision—and the couple’s next steps—open.
How the Season 2 finale ends
Joanne and Noah enter the finale in conflict over what a future together would require. After Joanne faces eviction in the previous episode, living together becomes a possibility. Noah is not ready to take that step while they disagree about conversion. Joanne wants to know whether they can move forward without either person having to become someone else.
The tension is about more than whether Joanne enjoys Jewish customs. She does not want to change herself to preserve a relationship, while Noah sees shared Jewish life as important and does not want her to convert just to keep him. Their different assumptions have left them talking past each other: Joanne believes conversion has been set aside, while Noah has understood it as paused.
At Morgan’s engagement party, they try to act happy, but Noah ends the relationship, saying he is accepting the reality of their situation. Afterwards, Joanne talks with Esther about the Jewish traditions she would miss. Esther’s perspective helps Joanne recognize that her connection to Judaism may be something she wants to explore in its own right—not a concession to Noah.

Noah reaches a separate realization: he wants Joanne even if she never converts. He runs after her, and they meet outside the Urban Light installation. They choose each other and kiss. The scene echoes the Season 1 finale’s chase and reunion, but reverses who makes the run. Here, Joanne has reached her own understanding of conversion, and Noah has stopped making it a condition of their relationship.
Does Joanne decide to convert?
She decides she wants to explore conversion, but the finale does not show her converting or establish that she has made a final decision. Her shift is presented as personal: Esther’s conversation helps her see a sense of belonging in Jewish practice and tradition that she wants to examine for herself.

Creator Erin Foster described Joanne as wanting the structure, purpose, boundaries, values and traditions she associates with Judaism, while also wanting any conversion to be authentic. Foster said she expected Joanne to be on a conversion journey if the series continued. That is an explanation of the fictional storyline, not guidance about Jewish conversion.
Why Noah and Joanne misunderstood each other
Their conflict turns on three related questions:
- What each thought had been agreed: Joanne believed conversion was no longer on the table; Noah thought it was on hold rather than abandoned.
- Why conversion matters: Noah wants a shared religious future. Joanne needs to know that any exploration comes from her own identity and desire to belong, not pressure to keep a boyfriend.
- What changes by the ending: They first break up, then reunite after Joanne expresses a new willingness to explore and Noah decides he wants her regardless of the outcome.
Kristen Bell, who plays Joanne, put the conflict this way: “It’s not Noah against Joanne — it’s Joanne and Noah against the problem.” Adam Brody described Noah’s decision as: “He’s seen what that would look like with and without conversion, and he’s saying, ‘That’s good enough for me. That’s what matters.’” These are actor interpretations of the characters, not a claim that their disagreement disappears.
What the reunion settles—and what it does not
The kiss confirms that they are together again at the end of Season 2. It does not mean every question about identity, religion or their practical future has been resolved. Joanne has not completed conversion, and the couple still has to work out what a shared life will look like.
Netflix’s September 10, 2026 update says Season 3 continues after their recommitment and follows them moving in together. At the time of that announcement, the new season was scheduled to debut October 22, 2026; it had not yet premiered as of October 8, 2026. Netflix Tudum’s Season 3 update describes the continuation.

How to read the show’s portrayal of Judaism
The finale uses Joanne’s story to explore whether she feels drawn to Jewish identity and tradition, but a scripted relationship arc is not a definitive account of Jewish conversion practice. The Associated Press reported that the production used a rabbi consultant who read scripts and took part in the writers’ room; that production detail does not make the series religious instruction. Rabbi Elan Babchuck said, “I celebrate the show. I think representation matters across the board, even when it’s in flawed form.” Rabbi Nicole Guzik also noted that Jewish perspectives are diverse. Their comments are context for the range of reactions the show may prompt, not a verdict on Joanne’s fictional choices. The Associated Press report on the show’s Jewish representation provides further context.
