Orion Pax becomes Optimus Prime in more than one Transformers continuity, and the details differ. In Hasbro’s G1-inspired account, Megatron gravely wounds Orion and Alpha Trion rebuilds him. The 2024 animated film Transformers One tells a separate origin focused on Orion Pax’s friendship with D-16, who becomes Megatron.
How Orion Pax becomes Optimus Prime in the G1-inspired account
Hasbro describes its A Hero Is Born set as inspired by an animated-series scene in which Orion Pax is brought to Alpha Trion. In Hasbro’s summary, Megatron’s near-deadly blast leaves Orion in need of repairs. Alpha Trion recognizes Orion’s spirit, rebuilds him, and Orion is reborn as Optimus Prime. Hasbro’s product page presents this specific G1-inspired version of the origin.
This concise product description establishes the main sequence, but it should not be treated as a complete account of every later continuity or every detail of the animated episode.
How Transformers One tells the origin
The 2024 animated film Transformers One is a distinct origin story, not a retelling of the G1 repair scene. Paramount frames it around Orion Pax and D-16 as friends bonded like brothers whose paths change Cybertron’s fate; Orion later becomes Optimus Prime, while D-16 becomes Megatron. Paramount’s official film listing gives the film’s premiere date as September 20, 2024.

Director Josh Cooley described the film as a coming-of-age story in which the characters begin without the ability to transform: “It was built into this idea that they don’t have the ability to transform.” The quote comes from The Credits’ September 20, 2024 interview with Cooley. The film’s official synopsis provides the broad relationship and origin framing; it does not establish the G1 account’s Alpha Trion repair sequence as part of this film.
How the two origin stories differ
| Story | Orion’s turning point | Megatron’s role |
|---|---|---|
| Hasbro’s G1-inspired account | Megatron’s near-deadly blast leaves Orion needing repairs; Alpha Trion rebuilds him as Optimus Prime. | Attacker in Hasbro’s short scene summary. |
| Transformers One (2024) | The film follows Orion and D-16’s early bond and their development; Cooley says they initially lack the ability to transform. | D-16 begins as Orion’s friend and later becomes Megatron. |
Both versions connect Orion Pax to Optimus Prime, but they are not one continuous, scene-by-scene account. The G1-inspired summary centers on Alpha Trion rebuilding a wounded Orion; Transformers One centers on the friendship and divergence of Orion and D-16.
