There has been no confirmed announcement that The Daily Show is being canceled. Jon Stewart said in July 2025 that he did not know what Paramount’s new ownership would do with the program. A later contract extension kept him as Monday host and executive producer through December 2026. As of TheWrap’s August 17, 2026 report, Paramount reportedly wanted him to return after that, but no extension beyond 2026 had been reached or announced.
What did Jon Stewart say about cancellation rumors?
On The Weekly Show in July 2025, Stewart addressed speculation about The Daily Show after reports about Skydance’s possible plans following its takeover of Paramount. He said he had not heard from the company and did not know what it intended to do. The Daily Beast quoted him saying: “We’ll land on our feet. No, I honestly don’t know.” He also said, “They may sell the whole f—ing place for parts, I just don’t know.” The Daily Beast’s report attributed the comments to that podcast episode.

Those remarks expressed uncertainty; they were not a cancellation announcement. The phrase “doesn’t look good” reflected the framing of the rumor, not a confirmed decision by Paramount or Comedy Central.
What happened to Stewart’s contract after the 2025 rumors?
In November 2025, Paramount extended Stewart’s deal through December 2026. He continued hosting Mondays and serving as executive producer, while correspondents and the news team shared hosting duties Tuesday through Thursday. The Los Angeles Times reported the extension and quoted Comedy Central manager Ari Pearce saying Stewart’s return was an ongoing commitment to the program.

The extension answered the immediate question of whether Stewart would continue in his Monday role through 2026. It did not establish what would happen after the contract ended.
Is Jon Stewart leaving The Daily Show after 2026?
As of August 17, 2026, the post-2026 arrangement remained unresolved in public reporting. TheWrap reported, citing a Paramount insider, that the company wanted Stewart back, but that no extension beyond December 2026 had been reached or announced. That reported interest is not the same as a signed renewal, and it does not establish that Stewart is leaving.

Because that report describes the status as of its publication date, any later announcement could change it. The confirmed point in the available reporting is that his existing deal ran through December 2026.

Does Stephen Colbert’s show ending mean The Daily Show will be canceled?
No. The Los Angeles Times reported the Stewart extension after CBS announced that The Late Show with Stephen Colbert would end, but those are separate programs and separate decisions. Colbert’s show ending is not evidence that The Daily Show has been canceled.
