No—Colin Jost is listed as returning for Saturday Night Live Season 52. NBCUniversal’s September 16, 2026 cast announcement includes him among the returning cast, and Peacock’s official SNL listing names him as well. No departure has been announced in these sources; that confirms his listed status for Season 52, not a commitment to stay in later seasons.
Why the rumor is circulating
Talk of Jost leaving can arise amid cast changes or commentary arguing that he and fellow Weekend Update anchor Michael Che should step aside. But speculation and opinion are not an announcement from Jost or NBC. The most relevant evidence for the immediate question is the published Season 52 roster.

What the current sources say
- NBCUniversal’s September 16, 2026 announcement names Jost among the returning cast members for Season 52.
- Peacock’s official SNL listing says the show returns in fall 2026 for Season 52 and includes Jost in its cast listing.
- The official SNL YouTube listing for the May 16, 2026 Season 51 finale identifies Jost and Michael Che as Weekend Update anchors.
Separately, a July 28, 2026 Daily Beast report said Jost and Che had not announced plans to step aside and that there were no indications they planned to leave. That was reporting at the time, not a direct statement from Jost or NBC.
What this does—and does not—confirm
The Season 52 cast announcement answers the immediate question: Jost is listed as returning. It does not establish what he might decide after that season, and no verified direct statement in these sources says he intends to remain indefinitely. A future departure remains possible, but it has not been announced in the sources cited here.
Where to check for updates
For an official status check, look for a new cast announcement from NBCUniversal or an update to Peacock’s SNL listing. Until an official change is announced, the current Season 52 listing is the clearest answer.
