It could be good news for High Potential if Taran Killam’s reported lighter Season 2 schedule meant the show sidestepped a French-original plot that might not fit its version of Morgan and Ludo. But that is a conditional argument, not a confirmed explanation: the August 2025 report forecast a possible reduction in Killam’s role, and no available source ties his schedule to a specific story decision.
What the “reduced role” report actually said
On August 18, 2025, Precinct TV reported that Killam might have less availability for Season 2 because he had joined NBC comedy Stumble as a series regular. That distinction matters: “reduced role” was a forecast, not a confirmed episode count or an official ABC explanation. It is not evidence that the show deliberately minimized Ludo to avoid a particular plot.
The HPI storyline behind the concern
High Potential is adapted from the French series HPI. The storyline cited by Precinct TV involves Morgane and her ex, Ludo, getting back together even though Morgane has feelings for Karadec. The outlet argued that bringing this arc into the US version could feel inconsistent with the characters’ established relationship dynamics. The concern is less about whether a former couple can reunite than whether the shift would feel earned in this adaptation. The relevant comparison is how each version presents Morgan’s feelings for Karadec, whether Morgan and Ludo function as romantic partners or as co-parents, and whether the French reunion plot is actually carried over. The existence of the HPI storyline alone does not show that High Potential adopted it.
What the US show said it would explore instead
Before Season 2 aired, showrunner Todd Harthan said the series would address what happened between Morgan and Ludo and how they came to co-parent. He told TVLine, “I think the audience has a real appetite to find out what really happened,” adding that Season 1’s 13 episodes had not left enough room to explore their backstory. That was a stated plan to fill in the couple’s history, not confirmation that they would reunite or that the series would reproduce HPI’s arc. Explaining a breakup and co-parenting arrangement can deepen Morgan and Ludo’s relationship without turning them back into a couple.
