The 2024 French film The Count of Monte Cristo, starring Pierre Niney, currently has a 97% Tomatometer score from 88 reviews and a 94% Popcornmeter score from 100+ verified ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. Those figures were checked in 2026; they differ from older figures attached to the headline, and Rotten Tomatoes scores can change as ratings and reviews are added.
What is the Rotten Tomatoes score for the new Count of Monte Cristo movie?
Rotten Tomatoes’ film page lists the 2024 feature at 97% on the Tomatometer from 88 reviews and 94% on the Popcornmeter from 100+ verified ratings (page accessed 2026). The Tomatometer reflects critics’ reviews; the Popcornmeter reflects audience ratings. These are separate measures, not a single combined score. Rotten Tomatoes’ film page is the source for the displayed values.
The headline-linked syndicated excerpt preserved different figures—98% critics and 91% audience—but its article metadata was not exposed in the accessible excerpt. Those are not the values currently displayed on the film page. Because ratings and review totals may change, a score should be read alongside its category, count, source, and check date rather than treated as a permanent mark.
Which adaptation do those ratings belong to?
The scores above belong to the 2024 French feature directed and written by Alexandre de La Patellière and Matthieu Delaporte, with Pierre Niney as Edmond Dantès and Dimitri Rassam as producer. Rotten Tomatoes lists its genres as adventure, drama, and action; its runtime is 2 hours 58 minutes. The page gives a limited U.S. theatrical release date of December 20, 2024, and a streaming release date of January 31, 2025. Those are the dates listed for the U.S. release, not a schedule for every territory.

There is also a separate 2024 television adaptation. Its Rotten Tomatoes page lists Sam Claflin as Edmond Dantès and an 88% average Tomatometer from 8 reviews. That score and cast do not belong to Niney’s film. The film and series differ in format, cast, and review pool, so their percentages should not be treated as directly equivalent.
What is the film about?
Rotten Tomatoes’ synopsis follows Edmond Dantès, who is falsely accused and arrested on his wedding day. After 14 years imprisoned in the Château d’If, he escapes, becomes rich, and seeks revenge on the three people who betrayed him. The film is an adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’s 1844 novel.
Rank #2
Rotten Tomatoes’ critic consensus describes the film as: “Condensing Alexandre Dumas’ hefty tome into a brisk and lavishly appointed action-adventure, this French adaptation of The Count of Monte-Cristo hits the sweet spot with rapier-like precision.” The statement is Rotten Tomatoes’ consensus, not a quotation attributed to an individual critic.
