For a manga-focused watch, Anime Filler List classifies Naruto episodes 26, 97, 101–106, 136–140, and 143–219 as pure filler. For Naruto: Shippuden, it lists 203 filler episodes across the ranges below. The original series has 220 episodes; Shippuden has 500. “Filler” here means an episode-guide label for material that does not adapt the manga as classified by that guide—not an official franchise designation or a verdict on quality.

How to use this Naruto filler list

This guide follows Anime Filler List’s labels. Its categories distinguish manga-canon, mixed canon/filler, anime-canon, and pure filler. If your goal is to follow the manga-adapted plot, skip episodes labeled pure filler; treat mixed episodes separately because they combine material rather than fitting neatly into a skip-or-watch rule. Anime-original material can also be enjoyable, so classification alone does not determine whether an episode is worth your time.

Different guides can count categories differently. NarutoHQ reports 90 filler episodes in the original series and 203 in Shippuden, while Anime Filler List separates mixed episodes in its original-series breakdown. Use the source labels below rather than treating one filler total as an official ruling. NarutoHQ’s episode list and the Anime Filler List guide for Naruto provide the underlying classifications.

Original Naruto: filler episodes to skip

The original Naruto anime runs for 220 episodes. Anime Filler List identifies these episodes as pure filler:

The long stretch from 143 through 219 is the main skip block for viewers following the manga story. Anime Filler List marks episodes 141–142 and 220 as mixed canon/filler, not pure filler. They are therefore kept separate from the list above; check the guide’s full episode table if you want its complete manga-canon and mixed classifications.

Naruto: Shippuden filler episodes to skip

Naruto: Shippuden has 500 episodes. Anime Filler List reports 203 filler episodes (41%) and lists the following as pure filler:

  • 57–71
  • 91–112
  • 144–151
  • 170–171

  • 422–423

  • 480–483

The Anime Filler List Shippuden guide also separates mixed and anime-canon episodes from pure filler. Do not automatically add those categories to a skip list: they are not the same classification, and whether to watch anime-original material depends on your goal.

Should you skip every episode labeled filler?

Skip the pure-filler ranges if you want a shorter, manga-focused route. Watch them if you are completing the anime or want additional anime-original stories. GamesRadar+ recommends selected filler material for viewers interested in character or story additions, which is a viewing preference rather than a change to the manga-adaptation label. Its filler guide offers examples of that more selective approach.

If you want to compare the anime with its source, NarutoHQ’s episode list includes manga chapter coverage for both runs. Reading the manga is optional; it is not needed to use the episode ranges here.

Why filler counts vary between guides

“Filler” is a guide taxonomy, not an official universal category. Counts can change depending on whether a list counts only episodes adapting manga chapters, includes episodes with both adapted and original material, labels certain anime-original episodes as anime-canon, or treats boundary episodes differently. For that reason, Anime Filler List’s pure-filler ranges are more useful for making a skip decision than an unexplained total on its own.

As a cross-check, NarutoHQ classifies 90 of the original series’ 220 episodes (40.9%) and 203 of Shippuden’s 500 (40.6%) as filler. Anime Filler List reports 203 Shippuden filler episodes (41%) and its page says it was updated September 3, 2024. The slight percentage difference reflects rounding; the original-series total may also differ because guides draw category boundaries differently.
