Quantum Leap co-showrunner Martin Gero said the creative team had mapped the shape and ending of a possible Season 3 after the explosive Season 2 finale. But NBC canceled the revival on April 5, 2024, after two seasons: the teased stories were never produced, and there is no Season 3 on the way.
What the Season 2 finale set up
In the two-hour finale, Hannah created a code that could potentially bring Ben Song back from his leaps, but using it required someone else to take his place. Addison Augustine volunteered. The exchange did not go as intended: instead of returning Ben, it brought Addison into his leap, leaving the two of them together in the past.
That ending opened the door to a new format for the show: two people leaping through time on the same adventure. It did not, however, establish that Ben and Addison had reunited as a couple. Co-showrunner Dean Georgaris said they had reconnected and rediscovered their feelings, but were not a couple; their relationship and how they might work together were unresolved possibilities.
What the showrunners said about a possible Season 3
A mapped-out story, not a renewal
Speaking to TVLine on February 21, 2024, co-showrunner and executive producer Martin Gero said: “We know what the shape would be for Season 3, where it would go and how it would end.” He described the show’s seasons as standalone novels, with an epilogue that pointed toward the next story. That meant the team had a creative outline for a potential season; it did not mean NBC had ordered one. At the time of the interview, a renewal decision was still pending.

Two leapers could change the adventures
Georgaris said the writers were interested in what could happen after spending two seasons building “two great leapers.” A new season might have included more humor, he suggested, because the heaviness of the previous story would no longer be hanging over the characters.
In a separate TV Insider interview, Georgaris described a flexible partnership rather than a fixed formula. Ben and Addison might not share every leap, and their objectives could sometimes clash. As he put it: “I don’t necessarily think just because they’re together in one leap means they’re automatically together in the next leap.”

Questions the writers might have explored
Georgaris also raised possible story questions, not events from a produced season: who would act as the hologram when two people were leaping, whether Hannah’s code could pull someone out, whether other members of the team might leap, and what would happen if the code stopped working. These ideas suggest how the finale could have broadened the series, but the interviews do not establish them as finalized episode plots.

No. NBC canceled the revival on April 5, 2024, after two seasons, and it will not return for Season 3. TVLine and TV Insider reported the cancellation that day. The February interviews captured a moment when the creative team had ideas but did not yet know whether the network would renew the show.

Audience figures reported in separate TVLine articles provide context, but should not be treated as a single reconciled measure:
| TVLine report date | Live+7 total viewers | Live+7 demo rating | Context |
|---|---|---|---|
| February 21, 2024 | 3.7 million | 0.45 | Figure reported in the article about the renewal decision still being pending. |
| April 5, 2024 | 3.6 million | 0.44 | Figure reported in the cancellation coverage. |
| May 10, 2024 | About 3 million | 0.4 | Reported as declines of 23% in viewers and 34% in the demo versus Season 1. |
The articles do not provide the underlying Nielsen tables or a shared measurement cut-off, so the figures are separate dated snapshots—not one definitive audience total or proof of an exact cancellation threshold.
