Horizon: An American Saga does not have one simple, scene-by-scene calendar in the available official descriptions. Netflix Tudum says Chapter One spans 15 years across pre- and post-Civil War America; the Venice Biennale frames the larger saga around the Civil War years, 1861–1865. Those statements describe different scopes, not a contradiction.

What years is Horizon: An American Saga set in?

The saga is framed around the Civil War era and the westward expansion and settlement of the American West. The Venice Biennale describes its broader scope as spanning the four Civil War years, from 1861 to 1865. Cannes characterizes the story more broadly as a years-long period of pre- and post-Civil War expansion and settlement.

These are descriptions of the story’s historical setting and scope, not a complete calendar of every event. The sources do not assign every character or scene to a specific year.

How much time passes in Chapter One?

Netflix Tudum describes Chapter One as taking place across 15 years in pre- and post-Civil War America. That duration applies to the first chapter; it should not be treated as the precise length of the entire saga or as a scene-by-scene timeline.

Why do the 15-year and 1861–1865 descriptions differ?

They refer to different things. The 15-year figure is Netflix Tudum’s description of the span covered by Chapter One. The Venice Biennale’s 1861–1865 framing describes the saga through the Civil War years, while Cannes also uses the wider pre- and post-war frame. None of those descriptions supplies a fully mapped chronology, so the numbers should not be combined into a single exact timeline.

Are Chapter One and Chapter Two back-to-back?

The original U.S. theatrical plan reported by the Associated Press in May 2024 scheduled Chapter One for June 28, 2024, followed by Chapter Two on August 16, 2024. That was the plan at the time, not confirmation of the films’ present availability or evidence that the story itself proceeds without a time jump.

The Venice Biennale later announced Chapter Two for an out-of-competition world premiere on September 7, 2024. A festival premiere is a separate milestone from the original U.S. theatrical schedule. The cited sources do not establish Chapter Two’s current U.S. theatrical, streaming, or home-media status.

How many Horizon chapters are planned?

Netflix Tudum called Chapter One the first of four planned installments. In May 2024, the Associated Press reported that Kevin Costner had scripts ready for Chapters Three and Four. Scripts being ready does not confirm that those chapters are currently in production or have release dates; the available cited sources do not establish their present status.
