What happened at CinemaCon on April 1?
CinemaCon took place at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas from March 31 to April 3, 2025. The organizer lists the trade show as April 1–3; its Tuesday, April 1 trade-floor hours were 11:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Those hours describe the trade show, not the full convention or the schedule of individual studio presentations. CinemaCon’s FAQ and its official hours page distinguish the event dates and show-floor hours.

The April 1 live account begins with the State of the Industry address. CinemaBlend reports that Sean Baker’s Academy Awards acceptance speech appeared on screen with an appeal to exhibitors to preserve the theatrical experience. The blog also says NEON presented box-office figures for low-budget successes, without giving the figures in the account, and that Tom Cruise appeared by video. These are details from the contemporaneous live coverage, not independently established figures or production records. Read CinemaBlend’s April 1 live blog.
Why do CinemaCon “Day 1” labels differ?
There are two timelines in circulation: the calendar date of live coverage and the order in which retrospective coverage numbers studio presentations. CinemaBlend’s Lionsgate live blog is timestamped April 1. A recap published April 4 by That Hollywood Show calls Sony Pictures Entertainment “CinemaCon Day 1” and Lionsgate “Day 2.” The labels therefore should not be treated as a single, unambiguous numbering system for the event’s calendar days. See the April 4 recap.

What did Lionsgate announce and preview?
The following highlights come from CinemaBlend’s live account of the presentation. The descriptions of footage, announcements and remarks below are attributed to that coverage.
Ballerina: action preview and production anecdotes
The blog describes a new trailer for Ballerina, featuring Ana de Armas as Eve in an action sequence involving knives, dish carts, plates and an axe. De Armas and director Len Wiseman later discussed the action work, including breakaway plates and shooting exterior scenes in snow. CinemaBlend reports that de Armas said she trained for almost four months; that duration and the set anecdotes are her reported comments, not independently verified production records.
The Long Walk and Sunrise on the Reaping
Mark Hamill, director Francis Lawrence and David Jonsson appeared to discuss The Long Walk. The live blog describes its premise as a contest in which participants must keep walking or be killed.
Lawrence also discussed the adaptation of Suzanne Collins’s Sunrise on the Reaping. According to the live account, the project was early in production and no footage was shown; an animated logo was presented instead. The Sunrise on the Reaping novel is the book connected to that adaptation discussion.

- Now You See Me: Now You Don’t: The live coverage reports a first-look trailer.
What did the official industry address say?
The Motion Picture Association published prepared remarks for delivery at CinemaCon on April 1, 2025, by its Chairman and CEO, Charles Rivkin. Rivkin addressed Cinema United and Amazon MGM Studios’ first CinemaCon appearance. He also referred to Amazon MGM’s pledge at SXSW to release 12–14 films theatrically in the following year. That range is Rivkin’s account of a forward-looking pledge, not a verified final count of releases.
“At the Motion Picture Association, we want what you want: great movies that draw big audiences to your theaters.”
