Spoilers for Agatha All Along Episode 7, “Death’s Hand in Mine,” and series-finale context.
Yes: Episode 7 presents Lilia Calderu’s fall as the result of a deliberate sacrifice. She stays behind, reverses the Tower card to turn the Salem Seven’s attack against them, then releases her hold and falls. The final scene with a young Lilia takes place earlier in her life; it does not show her fall being undone.
What happens to Lilia at the end of Episode 7?
As the Salem Seven close in during the tarot trial, Lilia sends Agatha, Billy, and Jen onward. She turns the Tower card upside down, reversing the room so the attackers fall onto the suspended swords. Lilia then lets go of the tarot table and falls herself. The episode frames this as a choice that gives the others a chance to continue, not as an accident or a rescue that happens offscreen. TVLine’s Episode 7 recap describes the sequence.
The episode does not show what happens after the fall. Within the story as presented, however, Lilia’s sacrifice is the outcome: it gives no indication that she survives or is brought back.

Why does the final scene show a younger Lilia?
The hour moves between the tarot trial, Lilia and Jen in the tunnels, and moments from Lilia’s earlier life. Lilia has experienced gaps and lapses since childhood, and scenes that initially seem disconnected are revisited in a different context as the episode unfolds. The young Lilia arriving for her first lesson is one of those earlier moments, not a continuation after the fall.
Showrunner Jac Schaeffer said the episode was deliberately structured nonlinearly to place viewers in Lilia’s experience. In an interview with TheWrap, she discussed the scrambled timeline and the work involved in keeping it clear. Lilia’s line, “The flow of time is an illusion,” acts as a key to the structure: events are shown out of order, but the ending does not reverse what happened.

What does Lilia’s tarot reading reveal?
In the library, Lilia lays out a reading that connects the characters and events of her story. She identifies herself with the Queen of Cups; the spread reflects the coven she is missing, while cards for the path behind and the path ahead connect to Alice and Jen. The Tower appears as the windfall, and the final card, Death, clarifies Rio’s identity. Agatha confirms that Rio is Death. TVLine’s recap follows the reading and the reveal.
The Tower is both a card in the reading and the mechanism of Lilia’s final act: she reverses it to turn the trial room against the Salem Seven. Her understanding of the spread helps her act with purpose rather than treating her visions as random interruptions.

What the ending means for Lilia
Lilia’s last stand brings together the episode’s two central ideas: her life has been experienced out of sequence, and she can still choose what to do in the moment before her. She recognizes what the reading is telling her and uses the Tower’s reversal to protect the others. Immediately before the confrontation, she says, “I loved being a witch.”
In a later interview, Schaeffer described her conception of Death as “death and life in constant conversation,” and called Lilia’s story “incredibly beautiful and incredibly affirming.” Those comments support reading the ending as meaningful and chosen; they do not suggest that the fall is reversed. TheWrap’s interview with Schaeffer discusses her view of Death and Lilia’s arc.

How the episode staged the sword sequence
The danger in the scene is part of the staging, not evidence that the actors faced actual blades. Schaeffer told TheWrap that the sword props were real props suspended on wires, and that the production mapped their positions before rehearsal. Her account of the episode’s nonlinear construction and physical production is in TheWrap’s Episode 7 interview.
