De Luca’s April 2025 remark signals studio intent, not a confirmed production start. He was quoted as saying, “Imminently. The ink might not be dry on the deals yet, but imminently.” The remark was reported by GeekTyrant and Fangoria in coverage relaying his interview with Deadline.

Why Burton’s later comments complicate the announcement
In July 2025, Burton responded to the reported development news by telling The Hollywood Reporter, as relayed by Forbes, “Really? Nobody told me Maybe I’ve been replaced,” and added, “I love the characters, but I don’t necessarily see it.” His remarks mean his participation should not be treated as confirmed.

Jenna Ortega also said she would not take part in another Beetlejuice film without Burton, calling it “a tad disrespectful” to proceed without him. Neither comment establishes that a third film has been canceled; together, they show that the reported development intent had not translated into confirmed creative attachments in the public statements covered.
What the $451.9 million figure refers to
The “$451M” in the headline refers to a reported worldwide box-office gross of $451.9 million for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the 2024 sequel. GeekTyrant and Fangoria reported the figure in 2025 coverage. It is a reported total, not a box-office database figure independently verified here, and it belongs to the sequel—not to a third film.

What the existing sequel establishes
Warner Bros.’ official film page describes the 2024 sequel: following a family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return to Winter River, where Astrid discovers a town model and a portal to the Afterlife. The page identifies Burton as the sequel’s director and lists its cast. That information concerns Beetlejuice Beetlejuice; it is not a synopsis or cast announcement for a third movie.
Before the sequel’s release, producer Tommy Harper said, “We haven’t talked about where it could go from here, we just talked about making one really good movie.” GamesRadar+ reported that comment in August 2024, before De Luca’s later statement about a third film. It describes the team’s pre-release focus at that time, not the project’s later status.
