Its mix of isolation, a mysterious radio voice and blurred reality gives the story psychological and science-fiction edges. The review’s strongest response is to its emotional focus on family, grief and hope; its main reservation is uneven pacing.
What is The Occupant about?
Abby, a geologist working in Georgia, is desperate to return home when she learns her sister is dying. A helicopter crash leaves her stranded in a harsh, icy landscape, where survival becomes more difficult as reality and imagination begin to blur. A mysterious voice over the radio offers guidance—and an impossible choice.
The premise connects the physical danger to a personal emergency: Abby is not simply trying to escape the wilderness, but trying to reach someone she loves. That family bond gives the survival plot its emotional stakes.
Does the thriller’s emotional story work?
In this review’s reading, the film’s most affecting ideas are grief, loss, hope and family love. Abby’s isolation and limited radio contact build tension, while the mysterious metal becomes a recurring symbol of her connection to her sister. The story’s emotional force comes from how those elements make the distance between Abby and home feel both physical and personal.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The review also praises the performances and finds the film’s themes compelling. That response is not a claim of critical consensus; it reflects what works for this viewer in a film whose intimate family stakes sit alongside its survival and psychological-thriller elements.
Where does The Occupant stumble?
Pacing is the review’s main caveat. The opening stretch feels more dynamic, while later sections slow down or become confusing as the film leans further into psychological ambiguity. Viewers looking for a consistently brisk survival thriller may find that shift frustrating; those more interested in atmosphere and emotional uncertainty may be more receptive to it.

Who is likely to enjoy it?
The Occupant may appeal to viewers who want an isolated survival story with family stakes, psychological uncertainty and science-fiction elements rather than a straightforward escape narrative. Its central question is less about wilderness technique than about what keeps Abby going when she is cut off from home.
UK content guidance may also help with the viewing decision: the BBFC lists strong language and injury detail, and describes threatening radio communication, a helicopter crash, drowning, a shooting, and references to cancer and grief. This guidance applies to the UK classification, not necessarily to every territory’s rating or advisories.
