Spoilers for the Season 1 finale and John Grisham’s novel. The Rainmaker was renewed for Season 2, which USA Network said was coming in 2026. Showrunner Michael Seitzman later described a larger season built around multiple connected cases, new characters, and a gambling-and-Dixie-Mafia storyline. The TV finale’s outcome also differs in material ways from the novel’s ending as summarized in the available account.

Is The Rainmaker coming back for Season 2?

Yes. USA Network announced the renewal on October 23, 2025, and said Season 2 was expected in 2026. The announcement named Lionsgate Television and Blumhouse Television as production companies. It did not give a premiere date or specify where the season would be available to stream.

USA Network said the first nine premiere episodes averaged 1.3 million total viewers, and described the finale as the season’s most-viewed episode on the network. It also called the series USA Network’s most-viewed freshman series in seven years, based on total cross-platform viewing to date. These are network-reported figures, not independently audited ratings. USA Network’s renewal announcement

What has been said about Season 2?

A wider story with multiple cases

In an interview published June 8, 2026, showrunner Michael Seitzman told TV Insider, “I’ll tell you that it’s a bigger show in Season 2.” He said the season would have more than one case, adding: “It’ll be very surprising to see how those cases affect each other.” Those comments point to cases whose stories intersect, but they are not a full episode-by-episode synopsis.

New characters and a dangerous storyline

Seitzman also mentioned new cast members Merle Dandridge, Austin Nichols, and Liam O’Halloran. He described “a bunch of kids in harm’s way” and “a big gambling and Dixie Mafia story.” His interview establishes these as elements of the season’s direction; it does not provide enough detail to identify every character or explain how the storylines resolve. What is known about the returning cast?

In December 2025, Seitzman said he had ideas for Season 2 but had not settled which characters would return. Actor Milo Callaghan, who said he hoped the gang would return to face another adversary, joked, “I’m here for seven seasons, so let’s go.” That was enthusiasm, not confirmation of a seven-season plan or a final returning-cast list. The later interview named three new cast members, but the available statements do not establish a complete roster. USA Network’s December 2025 coverage

Does the series end the same way as the book?

No—not according to the available accounts of the TV finale and the novel. USA Network’s December 2025 recap says the television finale has Rudy expose a hospital murder cover-up, while opposing counsel Leo Drummond comes under FBI investigation. The available novel summary describes a different case outcome and a different aftermath for Rudy and the plaintiffs.

The comparison below uses USA Network’s account of the finale and a secondary plot summary of Grisham’s novel; it is not a scene-by-scene comparison against the text.

Story point TV series, as described by USA Network Novel, as described in a plot summary
Case outcome Rudy exposes a hospital murder cover-up. The recap does not state a jury award for the plaintiffs. The jury awards the plaintiffs $50.2 million, according to the secondary summary.
Insurer and plaintiffs Leo Drummond is under FBI investigation in the network’s account; it does not establish the novel’s bankruptcy outcome for the series. Great Benefit declares bankruptcy after its parent moves assets out of the country, leaving the family without payment, according to the summary.
Rudy’s future The network recap focuses on the cover-up and investigation; it does not state the novel’s outcome for Rudy’s legal career. The summary says Rudy earns no fee.
Rudy and Kelly The cited network account does not provide enough detail to compare every relationship beat. The summary says Rudy and Kelly leave Memphis.

The differences in the case resolution and its consequences mean “fully book-accurate” would overstate what these accounts support. Because the book details here come from a secondary summary rather than a checked copy of the novel, readers looking for a precise adaptation analysis should consult the source text. Where to read the story behind the adaptation

John Grisham’s The Rainmaker is the source novel for the series. Reading it is the most direct way to compare the book’s courtroom outcome and aftermath with what the television finale presents. Find the source novel; no specific edition or current price is established here.
