The Simpsons: Tapped Out is no longer playable through its retired service. EA announced that the game would leave app stores on October 31, 2024, and that its servers would close on January 24, 2025. A specialist wiki later reported that access ended at 23:00 GMT on January 25, 2025—a reported cutoff distinct from EA’s announced shutdown date.
When did The Simpsons: Tapped Out shut down?
EA announced the sunset in September 2024. The game was delisted from app stores on October 31, 2024, and EA said its servers would be turned off on January 24, 2025. A specialist wiki reports that the game became inaccessible at 23:00 GMT on January 25, 2025. The latter is a reported observed cutoff, not the date EA announced.

EA’s farewell message, reproduced in a September 2024 archive by Tapped Out Addicts, said players could continue until January 24, “at which point servers will be turned off and TSTO will not be accessible.” The game’s final update, “Taps,” was its 252nd and last content update.
Why did EA close the game?
EA’s announcement did not give a specific reason for ending The Simpsons: Tapped Out. EA’s general service-shutdown policy says that services across its games may be retired when the remaining audience is too small to make the behind-the-scenes operations feasible. That is general context, not a confirmed explanation for this game’s closure.

Can you still play it offline?
No source cited here reports that Tapped Out was converted to offline play. EA’s general policy says some retired games may remain playable offline, depending on the particular game and service; it does not establish that this applies to Tapped Out. Once its servers were retired, ordinary access to the game ended. Reinstalling the app or changing devices does not restore that service.
What happened to the game’s old content?
EA’s reproduced FAQ said content from earlier years would return in weekly waves during the final five weeks of service. That was a limited, pre-shutdown return of material—not a continuing way to access items after the servers closed.

In its farewell statement, EA credited Tapped Out with 308 updates, 831 characters, and 1,463 questlines. These are the publisher’s 2024 figures, reproduced in the Tapped Out Addicts archive; they describe the game’s accumulated content, not what remains accessible now.
Were in-app purchases refunded?
EA disabled in-app purchases as part of the sunset. The announcement and general service policy cited here do not establish a blanket refund policy. For questions about a specific transaction or account, contact EA Help; whether a refund is available depends on the circumstances and applicable rules.

What can fans do now?
There is no verified way to restore the retired game service, and the sources cited here do not establish an official replacement or preservation project. Unofficial APKs or private servers should not be treated as verified ways to recover a safe, supported version of the game. Fans looking for more Simpsons entertainment can explore the franchise in other formats, but those do not replace access to Tapped Out.
