Spoilers for Seasons 2 and 3. Peter and Rose stop the KX attack in The Night Agent Season 2, but Peter’s work for intelligence broker Jacob Monroe leaves him entangled in the political fallout. He agrees to investigate Monroe for Catherine and asks Rose to stay away for her own safety. That cliffhanger has since moved forward: Season 3 is available, and Netflix has confirmed that Season 4 will be the final season.
What happens at the end of Season 2?
Peter, Rose, Catherine, and other law-enforcement personnel prevent the planned KX attack at the United Nations. The danger continues at the fictional Wynnfield Hotel, where Peter and Rose take down Markus and shut off the weapon. The immediate bioterror threat is stopped; the political and intelligence consequences are not.

Project Foxglove and the KX attack
Project Foxglove was a shuttered CIA program that developed potential chemical weapons and antidotes. A sample of KX remains in circulation. General Viktor Bala obtains it, and his son Tomás and nephew Markus help carry out a retaliatory attack after the United States abandons the general when the program’s crimes become a liability. Netflix’s Season 2 ending explainer describes how the plot converges on the UN and the hotel.
Why is Peter working against Monroe?
Peter’s victory comes with a serious compromise: he stole confidential UN documents for Jacob Monroe, an intelligence broker who manipulates people and information for his own ends. Monroe uses information connected to the Foxglove scandal to help Governor Richard Hagan’s election prospects. By the finale, Peter recognizes that his own actions helped Hagan.

Catherine assigns Peter to get close to Monroe and investigate the broker’s relationship with Hagan. Peter is therefore trying to contain a threat from inside Monroe’s orbit, but he is also responsible for having given Monroe leverage in the first place. The ending leaves him caught between the harm he helped enable and the chance to expose the people exploiting it.
Series creator and showrunner Shawn Ryan described the job’s moral demand to Netflix Tudum: “You’re supposed to be loyal to an institution and to an ethos.” In Peter’s case, the finale tests whether he can serve that ethos after compromising it.

Do Peter and Rose break up?
Peter asks Rose not to look for him or wait for him. He believes his enemies could use her to reach him, so the separation is his attempt to protect her. Rose accepts that she will not keep trying to re-enter his life whenever something goes wrong. The scene is a painful parting shaped by operational danger; it does not mean their connection was false.
What happens to Peter in Season 3?
Season 3 is no longer a future possibility: Netflix released all ten episodes on February 19, 2026. Peter investigates stolen Financial Crimes Enforcement Network intelligence and a broader conspiracy involving financial transfers, terrorism, Monroe, and political corruption. Catherine dies early in the season; Peter continues the investigation with reporter Isabel De Leon and later works with Adam. The season reveals links among the Hagans, Monroe, and a money-laundering network. Netflix’s Season 3 release announcement recaps the setup, while its Season 3 ending explainer covers the finale.

Peter steps back, but the story leaves a door open
At the Season 3 ending, Peter chooses to take a break from Night Action. Deputy Director Mosley hints that Peter may have a partner when he returns. Ryan described the tease as a launch point for the next season, but the ending does not establish the partner’s identity or spell out what the assignment will be.

Yes. Netflix announced on May 4, 2026, that Season 4 would be the show’s fourth and final season and that production had begun in Los Angeles. The announcement gave no release date, so there is no confirmed date to report. Netflix also said the series had spent 27 weeks in its Global Top 10 and reached No. 1 in 87 countries; those are Netflix-reported performance figures, not independent viewership measurements. See the Season 4 announcement for the official status.
