Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin is officially in development as a video game, but the separately announced live-action film is in a different—and less certain—position. Paramount Games announced the game on June 5, 2026, with Platinum Games developing it for consoles and PC. No release date has been announced. The film, meanwhile, was reported on hold in 2025; later comments from co-creator Kevin Eastman expressed hope, not confirmation of a revival.

Is TMNT: The Last Ronin a game or a movie?

Both projects have been announced, but they do not share the same status. The game is officially in development. The R-rated live-action film adaptation was reported to be on hold, and no new greenlight or release date has been established.

Video game Paramount Games announced it on June 5, 2026. Platinum Games is developing it, Paramount Games is publishing it, and it is planned for consoles and PC. Release date, named console models, price, launch window, and detailed gameplay systems.
Live-action film Variety reported on November 21, 2025, that Paramount had put the R-rated adaptation on hold while developing a different live-action TMNT film. A renewed greenlight, active production status, or release date.

What has been confirmed about the game?

Paramount’s June 5, 2026 announcement identifies Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin as an action-adventure game developed by Platinum Games and published by Paramount Games. The publisher says it is planned for consoles and PC, but does not name specific systems.

The premise follows the last surviving Ninja Turtle on a desperate mission for vengeance, based on the comic. Paramount’s official game hub describes it as “a AAA action-adventure game being developed by Platinum Games.” Neither official source gives a release date, price, launch window, or detailed description of combat and other gameplay features. Claims about a particular console release or how the game will play are therefore premature.

What is the live-action film’s status?

The film’s reported hold is not the same thing as an official cancellation. Variety’s November 21, 2025 report said Paramount was putting a pin in the R-rated adaptation while developing another live-action TMNT project. Variety described the earlier film as being developed by former Warner Bros. chief Walter Hamada and screenwriter Tyler Burton Smith, with Ilya Naishuller in talks to direct. The report said the project might be revisited, but probably not soon; it was trade reporting, not a Paramount cancellation announcement.

In February 2026, GamesRadar reported Kevin Eastman’s comments from an Entertainment Weekly interview. The TMNT co-creator said, “I don’t think the movie’s off the table,” and described it as delayed. That is Eastman’s personal optimism; it does not establish that Paramount has restarted development or approved a new schedule.

What comic is the game based on?

The source story is the five-issue comic collected as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin. The Penguin Random House / IDW catalog listing describes a battle-scarred future New York and a lone surviving Turtle seeking justice for the family he lost. The catalog lists a 224-page paperback as well as a hardcover edition.

Related stories in the series

  • The Last Ronin—Lost Years is a prequel about Michelangelo’s journey before the original story; paperback and hardcover collections are listed by Penguin Random House / IDW.
  • The Last Ronin: Training Day is a separate prequel one-shot. Paramount says its 10-page preview places the story between issues #3 and #4 of the original series and follows Michelangelo training Casey Marie Jones over 24 hours. It is comic material, not confirmed game content.
  • The Last Ronin II—Re-Evolution is identified in the original collection listing as a follow-on for readers.

What else did Paramount announce alongside the game?

Paramount’s game announcement also covered a limited-edition BossLogic collection of themed apparel and collectible poster art. That merchandise announcement is separate from the game: it does not establish a game bundle, and current stock or availability is not specified.

The same announcement described the Training Day comic preview. Neither the apparel nor the comic preview adds confirmed details about the game’s release, platforms, or mechanics.
