Spoilers for the 2024 season: Pascal Ibgui did tell Joan Vassos he could not offer the romance she wanted, and he ended their Tahiti date during the final-three week. But he left before the finale—not after choosing someone else or being rejected there. Joan ultimately chose Chock Chapple. So the title’s prediction came partly true as a painful moment, not as the show’s final outcome.
Why did Pascal leave The Golden Bachelorette?
In the episode, Pascal told Joan that he cared about her but was not in love, did not feel the spark he needed, and was not ready to move forward. He ended their date early. ABC News’ October 30, 2024 recap records his words: “I care about you as a friend but I’m not in love and I just can’t be there and it’s hurting me because we have a good time together, we do.”

The date took place in Tahiti during the overnight-date week, when Joan was down to Pascal, Guy Gansert, and Chock. Their day included dancing, a feast, and a ceremony in which they released fears into the ocean. In the evening conversation, Pascal said he could not give Joan what she was looking for and left. Joan said the moment made her feel “unlovable” and wonder whether she could find love again; that was her reaction to the breakup in that episode, not a lasting description of her outlook.
What Pascal said immediately after his exit
In a same-day interview with TheWrap, October 30, 2024, Pascal described himself as guarded and said he had not spent enough time with Joan to know her well. He also said the ceremony felt like a wedding and left him feeling unready. Explaining why he did not stay, he said: “I need[ed] to end it, because I felt like there … were two guys [who were] very much in love, so I felt like it was not fair to me to stay knowing that I cannot really give her what she’s looking for.”

Did Pascal break Joan’s heart?
His decision clearly hurt Joan in the moment: she had been open about feeling connected to all three remaining men, and Pascal ended their date after saying he could not reciprocate her feelings at the level she wanted. ABC News reported that the overnight dates were meant to let Joan get to know each man emotionally without cameras present. The breakup was painful, but it did not determine the finale: Pascal had already left before Joan made her final choice.
Who did Joan choose on The Golden Bachelorette?
Joan chose Chock Chapple in the finale, which aired November 13, 2024. In their November 14, 2024 post-finale interview, Joan and Chock spoke publicly as an engaged couple and said they had grown closer while keeping their relationship private after filming. The season finale’s ABC press listing is dated November 7, 2024; it is a historical release, not confirmation of current streaming availability.

What did Pascal say to Joan after the show?
In a conversation revisiting his exit, reported by Bachelor Nation on August 13, 2026, Pascal said he and Joan had become good friends. He described distance as a challenge and said he feared rejection because he thought Joan would choose Chock. He told her: “I wanted you to know that I didn’t leave because I didn’t have the feelings for you. I left because I felt like your feelings were much stronger for Chock than it was for me.”
Joan said she had seemed inflexible about leaving her family, but could have been flexible about having more than one home. These are the pair’s later recollections of what might have shaped the decision; they add context rather than erase Pascal’s 2024 statements about lacking the spark and readiness he needed. His private motives are known only through what he has said.
