Severance Season 3 has been renewed and is filming, but Apple has not announced a release date. Adam Scott says the team is trying to avoid another three-year wait; that is an intention, not a confirmed schedule.
When will Severance Season 3 come out?
There is no official premiere date or release window for Season 3 in the latest available update, published by TheWrap on August 25, 2026. The season is in production, and the cast and crew have said they hope to deliver it sooner than Season 2. That does not confirm a particular year, month, or interval.
In May 2026, Adam Scott, who stars in the series and is an executive producer, said the team was “definitely planning on getting it out much sooner than the last round, which was three years, which is too long,” according to 9to5Mac’s account of his Deadline interview. In August, responding to whether viewers would face another three-year wait, Scott told TheWrap: “We’re doing everything we can to try and make sure that doesn’t happen. You never know.” He added, “We want to make the best show possible, so whatever it takes.” These comments express a goal, not a delivery commitment.
Any specific 2027 date remains speculation. 9to5Mac floated mid-2027 or later as an estimate, but that was the outlet’s inference, not an announcement from Apple, Scott, or series creator Dan Erickson.

Has Season 3 started filming?
Yes. Western Washington University reported on July 24, 2026, that production was set to begin July 27. By August 25, Scott had confirmed to TheWrap that filming was underway and had been going for a few weeks. The August report did not give a production-completion date or an official premiere schedule.
What is confirmed about Season 3?
- Renewal: Apple announced Season 3 on March 21, 2025. In that announcement, Apple identified Dan Erickson as creator, writer, and executive producer, and Ben Stiller as executive producer and director.
- Production: A July 2026 report gave July 27 as the planned start, and Scott confirmed filming was underway in August.
- Release timing: No official release date had been reported in TheWrap’s August 25, 2026 update.
- Faster turnaround: Scott has said the team wants to shorten the wait, while explicitly acknowledging that the timing is uncertain.
Why did Season 2 take three years?
The previous gap is not a reliable timetable for Season 3. In an Associated Press interview published March 21, 2025, Stiller said Season 2 filming began in October 2022 and continued until a strike halted production, by which point about seven episodes had been shot. Filming resumed after the strike for the final three episodes. AP also noted the pandemic and two Hollywood strikes in the series’ production history, so the strike interruption was not the only context behind the long interval.

In August 2025, Stiller told Vanity Fair, “The frustration for us was that it was taking so long, honestly.” He discussed external factors as well as his own process. That helps explain why the previous wait was difficult, but it does not establish how long Season 3 will take.
