Her twin sister and business partner, Sarah Simms Hendrix, announced in January 2025 that Simms had died at 39 from what she described as “a tragic surgery complication.” The family did not provide further medical details.
Who was Boo Simms?
Simms built her career across food, design and creative work. With her twin sister, Sarah Simms Hendrix, she co-founded Lady & Larder, a California food business known for its carefully arranged boards and selection of cheese, wine and provisions. Reporting described the sisters’ skills as complementary: Hendrix brought a culinary background, while Simms contributed design and media expertise. ABC News reported on the sisters and Simms’s death.
Simms also worked as creative director at Lazy Dog Restaurants and made art and other creative work, according to The Independent’s January 2025 account. Her public legacy was not limited to her online profile: it included the business she built with her sister and the creative work she pursued.
What did her family say about her death?
Hendrix announced Simms’s death in a statement on Lady & Larder’s Instagram, quoted by ABC News: “It is with profound sadness that I share the devastating loss of my twin sister and co-founder, Boo Simms, who passed away this week due to a tragic surgery complication.” ABC News reported the statement on Jan. 22, 2025, and said Simms was 39.

The family did not identify the surgery or explain the medical circumstances. The announcement is the basis for describing her death as related to a surgery complication; it does not establish a particular procedure, mechanism or more precise date.
What was Lady & Larder?
Founded by the sisters in 2016, Lady & Larder was a cheese, wine and provisions business associated with Santa Monica and Carmel Valley, California. Its boards and food presentation became a defining part of the brand. The Independent reported the 2016 founding date; Stepladder Ranch & Creamery’s memorial also recalled its relationship with Lady & Larder and the shop’s provisions.

His words were Duplass’s reflection, not a statement attributed to Simms.
The Independent reported that Lady & Larder had more than 80,000 Instagram followers in January 2025. That figure is a dated snapshot, not a current count. The business, her sister’s remembrance and public tributes together offer a fuller picture of Simms than a follower total alone.
