What is Season 2 about?
After the group’s bittersweet victory defending the Northern Water Tribe, Aang, Katara and Sokka travel across the Earth Kingdom. They hope to persuade the Earth King to help in the war against Fire Lord Ozai. Their journey brings them to Ba Sing Se, where Aang meets Toph, an earthbending master who agrees to train him.
The season also continues Zuko’s pursuit of Aang, while Azula enters the conflict. Executive producer Jabbar Raisani described the young characters’ development to Netflix Tudum: “In Season 2, we take those kids, and they grow. But growth is not a straight line … they’re really trying to figure out who they are.”

Ba Sing Se is a major setting in the season, and Netflix says it was built as a practical outdoor set under production designer Michael Wylie. Executive producer and writer Christine Boylan recalled the moment the team realized it could build the city: “Once we got the back lot and we realized we could build Ba Sing Se … I probably cried that day. It was so exciting.” She added: “All of those buildings were real. We would go in there with our monitors.
