In its weekly Top 10 report published March 18, 2025, Netflix said The Electric State led the English films chart for the week beginning March 10. Netflix reported 25.2 million views for the film during that chart week and said it reached No. 1 in 47 countries. It also placed in the Top 10 in all countries covered by the report. The result is a specific weekly ranking, not an all-time record or a statement about the film’s current position. Netflix’s report gives chart rank, views, and country count; it does not report production costs, revenue, profit, or return on investment. So “#1 hit” is accurate as a description of that first-week chart performance, not as proof of financial success or lasting popularity.
What is The Electric State about?
Netflix sets the story in an alternate, retro-futuristic 1990s, where robots have been exiled after a failed uprising. Millie Bobby Brown plays Michelle, who travels across the American West with Cosmo, a mysterious robot, and Keats, a smuggler played by Chris Pratt, in search of her younger brother. Anthony and Joe Russo directed the film; Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely wrote the screenplay. Netflix’s film feature describes its premise and adaptation, while the Netflix Media Center listing provides the official logline and credits.

The supporting cast includes Ke Huy Quan, Jason Alexander, Giancarlo Esposito, Stanley Tucci, and Woody Norman. Among the robot voice cast are Anthony Mackie, Woody Harrelson, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, and Alan Tudyk.
From graphic novel to film
The movie is based on Simon Stålenhag’s 2018 graphic novel of the same name. The book is a separate work from the film: an illustrated source story for readers who want to explore the world that inspired the adaptation. - Where it reached No. 1: 47 countries, according to the same Netflix report.
- What the figures do not establish: profitability, audience satisfaction, or long-term popularity.
When comparing this result with another title, match the platform, chart category, time period, and metric. A weekly English-film ranking is not directly interchangeable with a global all-time list or a different platform’s viewing measure.
