Paul Heyman is not an Anoa’i by blood. His connection to the family is professional: he worked with the Wild Samoans, Afa and Sika, and has been described as close to their wrestling circle since the early 1980s. Decades later, he became Roman Reigns’ on-screen adviser in WWE’s Bloodline story. The family ties are real; the faction’s alliances and conflicts are scripted wrestling.
Who are the Wild Samoans, and how are they related to Roman Reigns?
Afa and Sika were brothers who performed as The Wild Samoans. WWE says they debuted in the company in 1979 and won its World Tag Team Championship three times. Their career also connected them to later generations of wrestlers in their family.
- Sika was Roman Reigns’ father. Roman is therefore Sika’s son.
- Afa was Sika’s brother, making him Roman’s uncle.
- Afa’s son Samu and his nephew Fatu, known to WWE audiences as Rikishi, teamed as The Headshrinkers under Afa’s management.
- Sika was also the father of Rosey.
WWE’s biographies and memorials document these family links and the Wild Samoans’ wrestling careers. Afa and Sika also trained wrestlers together at the Wild Samoan Training Facility, including future WWE performers.
How did Paul Heyman come to know the family?
Heyman’s relationship with the family predates his role beside Roman Reigns by decades. ESPN describes him as close to the clan since the early 1980s and as the Bloodline’s adviser both on and off screen. Wrestling Inc., summarizing Heyman’s remarks in a 2018 interview, reported that Afa and Sika gave him their time and taught him. Those accounts establish a professional relationship and longstanding acquaintance, not biological kinship.

The family’s WWE history continued while Heyman built his own career in wrestling. In 1992, Afa returned to WWE as manager of The Headshrinkers, the team of his son Samu and nephew Fatu (Rikishi); WWE says he left the company in 1995. Afa and Sika entered the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007, inducted by their sons Samu and Rosey.
What is Heyman’s connection to Roman Reigns and The Bloodline?
In the Bloodline story, Heyman serves as Roman Reigns’ adviser. That pairing draws on a real history of professional familiarity with the family, but the faction itself is a WWE creation. Reigns’ family relationship to Sika is real; Heyman’s role as an adviser within the Bloodline and the group’s dramatic alliances and conflicts belong to WWE storytelling.

Keeping those layers separate avoids a common confusion: membership in the Bloodline does not make Heyman an Anoa’i relative, and the faction is not a documentary account of every relationship within the extended family.
