In July 2024, The Washington Post reported that Michael Bay was developing a film and television treatment for Skibidi Toilet with Invisible Narratives. That was an early development report—not confirmation that a movie or series was greenlit, released, or being directed by Bay. In May 2025, Bay reportedly said he was not directing a Skibidi Toilet movie.
What is the project about?
Skibidi Toilet is an animated YouTube series created by Alexey Gerasimov, known online as DaFuq!?Boom!. Its surreal shorts feature singing human heads emerging from toilets and humanoid characters with cameras, televisions, and other devices for heads. The shorts developed into an ongoing narrative, and the July 2024 report described plans to expand the property beyond YouTube.
The Washington Post reported that Gerasimov was working with Invisible Narratives on product lines and a potential television and movie franchise. It described Bay as developing a film and television treatment. Adam Goodman, Invisible Narratives’ CEO and founder and a former Paramount Pictures president, said: “I don’t think that there’s ever been anything that we’ve been involved with that mirrors the growth of this.” The Washington Post, July 24, 2024.
Is Michael Bay directing the movie?
That has not been established. Later coverage said Bay posted an Instagram Reel in May 2025 saying he was not directing a Skibidi Toilet movie. The 2024 report about a treatment in development should not be read as confirmation that Bay is currently directing. Rolling Stone India’s 2025 coverage reported the later denial.

What is known about the movie or TV plans?
The 2024 report establishes that a film and television treatment was being developed; it does not establish a completed screenplay, formal greenlight, cast, distributor, final format, or release date. No confirmed competing adaptation options or later definitive status for that treatment are established by the reporting cited here.
A separate 2026 development concerns future episodes, not the movie or television treatment. Cartoon Brew reported on September 3, 2026 that Invisible Narratives had named a new creative team for future episodes and that Gerasimov was not currently involved in their development or production. That is a reported current production detail, not evidence that his involvement has permanently ended or that the film and TV plans have been resolved. Cartoon Brew, September 3, 2026.

Why do Skibidi Toilet’s rights matter?
The rights context has involved both court proceedings and company statements. In Invisible Narratives v. Next Level Apps Technology – FZCO, a January 23, 2026 order from the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California records allegations of violations of a stipulated preliminary injunction and directs supplemental briefing. Allegations in a court filing are not findings of fact. The court docket.
In an announcement dated June 26, 2026, Invisible Narratives said Next Level Apps had agreed to abandon claims to Skibidi Toilet intellectual-property rights and ownership. That is the company’s account, not a court decision resolving every issue. Separately, the USPTO TTABVUE record for opposition 91303223 shows the opposition terminated on June 15, 2026, and lists the applications as “NOTICE OF ALLOWANCE – ISSUED.” That status should not be conflated with a ruling on every rights dispute. How large is the series’ audience?
The 2024 Washington Post article used the phrase “billions of people” to describe people clamoring to watch the series, but did not state a measurement method. It is not a verified count of unique viewers or a current audience figure. The available reporting does not provide directly comparable, method-defined audience statistics, so a precise current reach cannot be established from these sources.
