This retrospective ranks all 14 songs on the standard digital edition, from the most compelling to the least; the order is an editorial judgment, not an official ranking or a critical consensus. The album’s official tracklist establishes the scope.
How this ranking works
Each placement weighs songwriting and melody, production, vocal performance, how distinctly a song occupies its place on the album, and replay value. A lower position does not mean a track has no strengths; it means that, considered across those measures, it makes a less lasting case than the songs above it. The Associated Press called the album a satisfying full-length of big pop that returns to Gaga’s roots while pressing forward, while The Atlantic heard its callbacks to earlier Gaga work as part of a fresh whole. Those are useful critical frames, not a shared or definitive ranking.

Every song on MAYHEM ranked
-
“Abracadabra”
The album’s most complete pop statement: an instantly legible hook, dramatic momentum, and a production that makes its theatricality feel purposeful rather than ornamental. It is maximalist without losing the song underneath, and its energy rewards repeat plays.
-
“Disease”
A taut, dark opener built around a strong central melody and a vocal that moves between menace and urgency. Its harder-edged atmosphere gives MAYHEM an immediate identity, while the chorus remains memorable after the initial impact fades.

-
“Die With A Smile”
Its more open, classic pop-ballad approach provides a satisfying contrast to the album’s sharper textures. The emotional directness and melodic clarity make it one of the record’s most durable songs. It is part of the standard digital tracklist, not an extra track.
-
“Killah” featuring Gesaffelstein
The collaboration gives the album one of its most distinctive sonic turns. Its dark, club-minded production and Gaga’s commanding delivery create a vivid atmosphere; the track ranks just below the top tier because its mood carries more weight than its melodic development.
-
“Garden of Eden”
A bright, kinetic pop song whose immediacy is part of its appeal. It brings a lighter rush to the album and makes a strong first impression, though it does not have quite the same dramatic depth or staying power as the top four.
-
“Vanish Into You”
This track offers a more expansive, yearning mood, letting melody and vocal expression take the lead. Its atmosphere helps widen the album’s emotional range, even if it takes longer to distinguish itself from the record’s stronger, more sharply defined moments.

-
“Zombieboy”
Playful and knowingly strange, “Zombieboy” supplies a welcome jolt of personality. Its unusual character makes it easy to remember, although the song’s eccentricity is more compelling than its overall melodic payoff.
-
“Perfect Celebrity”
A pointed, high-gloss pop track with a confident vocal presence. The concept and sound fit the album’s dramatic world, but the song’s ideas land more forcefully than its hook, leaving it a little less irresistible on repeat.
-
“Shadow Of A Man”
One of the album’s more assertive performances, with a strong sense of attitude and forward motion. It adds to the record’s tougher edge, but its elements do not lock together as memorably as they do on the higher-ranked tracks.
-
“LoveDrug”
“LoveDrug” brings an appealing rush and a direct pop sensibility. It works well as a burst of momentum, though its comparatively familiar shape makes it less distinctive within an album full of bolder shifts in tone.

-
“The Beast”
The song’s darker feel suits the album’s more unsettling side, and Gaga leans into that atmosphere. It is an effective mood piece, but it leaves a less vivid melodic impression than the album’s strongest dark-pop tracks.
-
“Don’t Call Tonight”
Its sleek, nocturnal character gives the track a clear place in the album’s pop landscape. The restrained approach has its appeal, but it feels less immediate and less singular than the songs that make the most of MAYHEM’s theatrical scale.
-
“Blade of Grass”
A comparatively intimate, tender moment, “Blade of Grass” changes the album’s temperature. That contrast is welcome, but the quieter writing does not leave as strong a mark as the record’s more fully realized melodic and production choices.
-
“How Bad Do U Want Me”
The song’s polished, accessible surface makes it an easy listen, but it is the least distinctive entry in this particular sequence. Its central idea and delivery do not develop into the same memorable combination of melody, character, and replay appeal heard elsewhere on the album.

Which edition this list covers
The ranking follows the 14-song standard digital album tracklist. Physical editions can differ: Interscope lists a standard black 2-LP set with a fold-out poster and an etched Side D, while Lady Gaga’s store describes a specific exclusive CD edition that adds “Can’t Stop The High.” Bonus material is edition-specific, so check the exact listing rather than assuming every CD or vinyl version has the same tracks.
Why the album reads as a return without being a rerun
In its March 2025 review, the Associated Press framed MAYHEM as both a return to Gaga’s roots and a forward-driving pop record. The Atlantic likewise noted connections to her earlier work while arguing that those references interlock into something fresh. Gaga described feeling especially clear and on her game with the music in an AP interview reported in January 2025. These perspectives help explain the album’s blend of familiar theatrical pop and new combinations of mood and sound, but they do not determine the ranking above.
