A recording career alongside acting
Darren also recorded popular songs. According to The Washington Post, “Goodbye Cruel World” reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1961, and “Her Royal Majesty” reached No. 6 on the Billboard chart in 1962. These chart peaks marked a substantial part of his early career beyond film and television.
Behind the camera
Darren later worked as a television director, with credits on series including Beverly Hills, 90210 and Melrose Place. His career therefore extended from a 1950s film breakthrough and recording work into later television acting and directing. The Los Angeles Times’ obituary describes those directing credits.
