Emily in Paris season 5 gives Emily a Rome office, a Venice detour and some of the show’s most appealing supporting-character moments—but it does not leave its familiar romantic and workplace patterns behind. That makes “Emily’s most likable season” a defensible personal verdict, not an established consensus: the change of scenery helps, while the writing still divides critics.
Is Emily in Paris season 5 worth watching?
If you watch for the glossy travel settings, outfits and cast chemistry, season 5 offers plenty to enjoy. If you want the series to reinvent its story, the Rome move may feel more cosmetic than transformative. The season premiered on December 18, 2025, with ten episodes. Netflix frames it as a story shared between Rome and Paris; episode descriptions also bring Venice into the picture. Netflix’s season preview and the episode listing establish that itinerary.

Emily is running Agence Grateau’s Rome office while maintaining ties to Paris. The setup follows the Italian romance and Rome-office storyline introduced in season 4, so the relocation is a continuation as much as a reset. Netflix creator Darren Star called the new season “a tale of two cities: Rome and Paris.”
Does Rome make the story feel new?
Rome changes the visual texture and gives Emily a different professional setting, but it does not automatically change the show’s central rhythm: romantic complications and work problems still drive the plot. Venice adds another scenic stop, yet the season’s geography is not a clean break from Paris. The result is a refresh in atmosphere rather than a wholesale reinvention.

That distinction is central to the season’s mixed critical case. Audrey Fournier, writing in Le Monde on December 20, 2025, argues that the series remains static and recycles established arcs. Jasmine Valentine’s December 18, 2025 TechRadar review likewise sees the Rome shift as a missed chance for fresh direction, though Valentine allows that lighter moments remain. These are individual reviews, not evidence of a universal response.
Is Emily more likable this season?
“Most likable” works best as a viewer’s judgment about how Emily comes across, not as a claim that the season has solved the character. Season 5 gives her room to operate across two cities and puts her in a setting beyond the Paris routine, which can make her easier to spend time with. But her story still runs through the familiar romance-and-work machinery, so viewers who found those patterns frustrating are unlikely to find Rome alone a cure.
The supporting cast provides some of the season’s strongest counterweight. Fournier calls Minnie Driver’s Princess Jane the funniest addition and singles out Sylvie’s scenes as a source of strong moments. Those performances help explain why the season can feel more buoyant even when its larger story is repeating itself.
What changes in the season’s look?
Rome’s costume direction is a pleasure in its own right, and the clothes register the practical difference between cities. Netflix’s feature on costume designer Marylin Fitoussi discusses Emily in flatter shoes and trousers suited to cobblestones, alongside more statement-making looks such as a brown-and-white Diane von Furstenberg jumpsuit and a red-rose print outfit. Fitoussi, who has designed all five seasons, described Italy as “a new book, a new chapter” for her work.

The styling also marks Emily’s split identity between Italy and France. Netflix says Star drew on Italian cinema, including Cinema Paradiso and a Felliniesque sensibility. Lily Collins described the distinction in Emily’s hair: sleek and straight in Italy, softer and more effortless in Paris. These are production and performer perspectives rather than independent critical judgments, but they help explain why the Rome setting feels visually distinct even when the story remains familiar. Netflix’s costume feature and style feature detail the choices.
