Spoilers for Apartment 7A and Rosemary’s Baby. Terry Gionoffrio dies by jumping from a window after discovering what the Bramford’s residents intend to do with her pregnancy. The film frames the act as a tragic attempt to deny the group control over her and its plan; it is not an accidental fall. The closing sequence then connects Terry’s story to Rosemary’s arrival at the Bramford.
What happens to Terry at the end of Apartment 7A?
Terry begins as an ambitious dancer whose career is derailed by an injury. The Bramford’s elderly residents offer her a new opportunity, including the promise of renewed attention from a Broadway producer. Paramount’s synopsis describes her growing realization that something evil is at work in the building: Paramount’s Apartment 7A page.

By the climax, Terry understands that the group’s interest in her is tied to her pregnancy and a supernatural plan. In the final sequence, she dances toward a window and jumps. The act kills her and frustrates what the coven intended to accomplish through her pregnancy, according to The Review Geek’s ending recap.
Why does Terry jump?
The film presents Terry’s jump after she uncovers the group’s plan. It is best understood as a defiant, desperate act under coercion: she cannot get free of the Bramford residents safely, but she can prevent them from using her pregnancy as intended. That reading follows the scene’s dramatic implication; the film cannot establish a character’s exact private thoughts with clinical certainty.

Her choice is therefore both an assertion of agency and a tragedy. Terry denies the group its desired outcome, but at the cost of her own life. Calling her death an accident would misstate what the ending depicts.
How does the ending connect to Rosemary’s Baby?
Apartment 7A is a prequel set before Rosemary moves into the Bramford. Paramount identifies Ira Levin’s novel Rosemary’s Baby as the film’s source material and says the story explores what happened in the building before Rosemary arrived. Its July 17, 2024 announcement places the story in 1965 New York City: Paramount’s announcement.

The final movement brings Rosemary into the story after Terry’s death, making the prequel’s closing scene a handoff to the earlier narrative. Terry, who was only a brief figure in the prior story, now has a fuller and more tragic backstory. The ending establishes that connection, but it does not by itself prove that every continuity detail in the film and the earlier work aligns perfectly.

Screen story writer Skylar James described Terry as “Terry Gionoffrio had been this loose thread” in an interview about continuity with The Direct. The remark explains why Terry offered a starting point for the prequel: her place in the earlier story left room to explore what happened to her. It is context for developing the character, not a definitive explanation of every moment in the finale.
