Host Jimmy Kimmel also turned Amazon founder Jeff Bezos into the target of a package-delivery joke. Amazon later described the wins as a first for a streaming service, a claim the Academy’s awards record does not itself make.
Which Oscars did Amazon win in 2017?
The Academy’s record for the 2017 ceremony lists two wins for Manchester by the Sea and one for The Salesman:

| Film | Award | Winner listed by the Academy |
|---|---|---|
| Manchester by the Sea | Actor in a Leading Role | Casey Affleck |
| Manchester by the Sea | Writing (Original Screenplay) | Kenneth Lonergan |
| The Salesman | Foreign Language Film | Asghar Farhadi, for Iran |
The Academy’s 2017 ceremony record verifies the categories and winners. The awards were split between two films; no single Amazon-associated film won all three.
What made the wins a first for a streaming studio?
Amazon’s March 7, 2018 company statement called the awards the first Oscars won by a streaming service. That framing refers to Amazon Studios’ wins across Manchester by the Sea and The Salesman. It is Amazon’s historical claim, not a declaration made by the Academy’s category-winner record. Amazon’s statement provides the company’s wording and date.

What did Jimmy Kimmel say about Jeff Bezos?
In a contemporaneous report of the February 26, 2017 broadcast, GeekWire quoted Kimmel congratulating Bezos and then joking about delivery: “Jeff Bezos is the founder and CEO, and I want to say, congratulations to Jeff,” followed by, “And I also want you to know Jeff, if you win tonight, you can expect your Oscar to arrive in 2 to 5 business days, possibly stolen by a GrubHub delivery man.” This is the wording reported by GeekWire, not a quotation verified here against an official broadcast transcript. GeekWire’s award-night report recounts the remarks.
What was the separate joke about Amazon search?
Kimmel also joked about Amazon’s search recommendations while introducing Manchester by the Sea. GeekWire reported him saying, “Amazon produced ‘Manchester by the Sea,’ that was a fun movie, wasn’t it?” before making the search-related quip. This was distinct from the Oscar-delivery joke to Bezos.

Where could viewers watch the films?
In its 2018 announcement, Amazon described both films as available for unlimited streaming with Prime membership and said titles could also be rented or purchased digitally. That is historical distribution information from the company, not confirmation of present-day availability, regional access, or current membership terms.
