How the central family fits together
Odysseus: the homecoming hero
Odysseus is trying to reach Ithaca and reunite with his family after the Trojan War. His difficult journey home is the story’s central thread.
Penelope: queen of Ithaca
While Odysseus is away, Penelope waits for him as suitors occupy the palace. Their presence puts pressure on her and the household.
#1 Best Overall
Telemachus: the son who grew up without his father
Odysseus left Telemachus as a baby. The AP guide’s question, “Who is Telemachus, again?” captures why a quick reminder helps: he is not a peripheral name, but Odysseus and Penelope’s son and part of the story’s central family.
Who are the other named characters?
Antinous
Robert Pattinson plays Antinous, an Ithacan suitor of Penelope. He represents the immediate conflict inside Odysseus’s home, rather than the journey itself.

Lupita Nyong’o’s role
Universal’s official Canadian cast listing names Nyong’o but does not attach a character to her name. That listing does not establish whom she plays, so this guide leaves the role unassigned rather than treating speculation as fact.
