Jumanji 4 is officially titled Jumanji: Open World, and production has wrapped. Sony’s current Germany page lists a December 23, 2026 cinema release there; Sony’s US schedule lists December 25, 2026, while warning dates can change. The returning ensemble includes Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan. Trade reporting also names new cast members Dan Hildebrand and Jack Jewkes, but does not identify their roles.
When did filming start, and has it finished?
Sony announced that the film was in production on November 12, 2025. Dwayne Johnson said filming would take place in Los Angeles. That announcement establishes the production start announcement, not the exact first day of principal photography. GamesRadar+ reported the announcement and Johnson’s comments.
By March 12, 2026, Jack Black had posted, “Just finished shooting Jumanji 3. Love this crew. Can’t wait for Christmas!” CinemaBlend reported that filming had wrapped. The public reporting therefore supports a wrap by that date; it does not supply an exact start date. CinemaBlend’s wrap report reproduces Black’s post.
Who is returning, and who is new?
Sony’s current German film page lists the following cast. TheWrap’s November 2025 report names some additional returning actors and two new cast members; those names are attributed separately because they do not all appear on Sony’s current page.

TheWrap also identifies Nick Jonas, Danny DeVito, Rhys Darby, Johnson, Black, Hart and Gillan among the returning cast. Its report says it relied on a Columbia Pictures announcement. Sony’s current cast listing and TheWrap’s report are not identical, so the additional names above are best described as reported rather than as names on Sony’s page. Sony’s official Germany page has the current listed cast and credits; TheWrap’s November 14, 2025 report covers the production announcement and cast.
What is the story, and why is it called Open World?
Sony’s synopsis changes the series’ familiar setup: the heroes have escaped dangerous jungle worlds inside the game, but this time Jumanji breaks out of its console and brings its chaos into the real world. Sony says the film is based on Chris Van Allsburg’s Jumanji. The official title is Jumanji: Open World; “Jumanji 4” is an informal media label rather than the title shown by Sony. When does Jumanji: Open World come out?
The listed dates differ by territory. Sony Pictures Germany gives December 23, 2026 for cinemas in Germany. Sony’s FY26 Q1 US release schedule lists December 25, 2026, and explicitly says release dates are subject to change. Check local listings closer to release rather than applying either date worldwide.

Who is making the film?
Jake Kasdan returns as director and co-wrote the screenplay with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg. Sony lists Matt Tolmach, Kasdan, Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia as producers. The official film page carries these credits. See Sony’s credits.
Johnson’s production post, as quoted by GamesRadar+, described the film as “What a massive, fun, heartfelt adventure” and called it a “beautiful grace note” for the franchise. That is Johnson’s characterization, not a separate statement of Sony’s plot or release plans. GamesRadar+ reported his comments.
