The list includes seven films, but one needs a distinction: Reynolds’s Wade Wilson in X-Men Origins: Wolverine is credited as Deadpool, though Reynolds later said he would not call that version a superhero.
Ryan Reynolds’s superhero roles, in release order
| Year | Film | Character | How the role fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2004 | Blade: Trinity | Hannibal King | A vampire hunter and member of the Nightstalkers. Reynolds described King as a superhero in a 2004 interview. |
| 2009 | X-Men Origins: Wolverine | Wade Wilson/Deadpool | An early screen portrayal of Wade Wilson, distinct from the later standalone Deadpool films. |
| 2011 | Green Lantern | Hal Jordan/Green Lantern | A lead role as the DC superhero. |
| 2016 | Deadpool | Wade Wilson/Deadpool | Reynolds returned to the character in a standalone film. |
| 2018 | Deadpool 2 | Wade Wilson/Deadpool | The next Deadpool film. |
| 2018 | Once Upon a Deadpool | Wade Wilson/Deadpool | A separate film release featuring Reynolds in the role. |
| 2024 | Deadpool & Wolverine | Wade Wilson/Deadpool | Reynolds returned as Deadpool; Disney+’s listing identifies him in the cast. |

Was Ryan Reynolds Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine?
Yes. The filmography credits Reynolds as Wade Wilson/Deadpool. But the character’s treatment in that film is not the same as the later Deadpool portrayal, and Reynolds later said he would not classify the earlier version as a superhero. The distinction matters: including the credit does not mean treating the two versions as interchangeable.
In a 2016 Los Angeles Times interview, Reynolds discussed having played Wade Wilson in X-Men Origins: Wolverine before the solo film, and said that reading Deadpool comics helped him connect with the character.

Why Hannibal King counts
Hannibal King is a vampire hunter in Blade: Trinity, rather than a conventional costumed superhero. Still, the classification is not based only on inference: in a December 2004 Blackfilm.com interview, Reynolds called the part playing “a guy who’s a superhero who, at the same moment, does not take himself overly seriously.” That contemporary description supports including King in the film list.

Reynolds did not play the Flash. In the same 2004 interview, he said a conversation about the character was only a discussion and nothing official. A rumored or discussed part should not be counted as a screen role.
