Spoilers for Season 3, Episode 11. Belly chooses Conrad—but the finale makes the choice meaningful by showing that she has to make it for herself. After reconnecting in Paris, she pursues him to the train station and says she chooses him “of my own free will.” They leave the story together, returning to Cousins; the show does not depict their wedding. A feature film has been announced to continue Belly’s story.
Who does Belly end up with?
Belly ends up with Conrad, not Jeremiah. In Season 3, Episode 11, “At Last,” Conrad arrives in Paris for Belly’s 22nd birthday. They spend time together and reconnect, but their reunion does not immediately settle everything between them. Prime Video’s episode guide describes the birthday taking an unexpected turn when someone from home arrives.
After an intimate evening, their morning conversation brings Belly’s doubts to the surface. She wonders whether their love belongs to them, or whether it has been shaped by family expectations and Susannah’s death. Conrad tells her he loves her, but she cannot accept that assurance straight away. He leaves to catch a train. Belly realizes she still loves him, follows him to the station, and makes her decision unmistakable:
“Conrad, I choose you of my own free will. If there are infinite worlds, every version of me chooses you in every one of them.”

The line, transcribed in TVLine’s finale recap, resolves the central triangle in Conrad’s favor. The final movement shows Belly and Conrad together and returning to Cousins.
Why does Belly hesitate before chasing Conrad?
She is wary of hurting Jeremiah
Creator and showrunner Jenny Han has said Belly knows she caused Jeremiah pain and does not want to rush straight into a relationship with his brother. Her hesitation reflects that guilt, rather than indifference to Conrad.

She is protecting herself from another heartbreak
Han has also described Belly as cautious because she was hurt before and did not feel sure Conrad could return her love. Conrad’s earlier use of the past tense when speaking about their relationship had left Belly uncertain about whether he could offer a present commitment. That is Han’s account of the characters’ emotional history, not a diagnosis the finale states outright.
Paris gives her space to choose
Belly has built a life and spent time finding herself in Paris before Conrad arrives. Her station declaration therefore lands as a decision made after distance and reflection, not an automatic answer to his presence. Han’s explanation connects Belly’s caution both to her feelings for Jeremiah and to her fear of being hurt again.

What does “of my own free will” mean?
Belly’s words answer the doubt she raised in Paris: whether she and Conrad are choosing each other, or whether their relationship is bound up with Susannah’s wishes and the grief surrounding her death. The finale presents Belly’s choice as both a romantic reunion and an act of agency. She does not merely accept Conrad’s declaration of love; she decides that she wants the relationship.
Han has described Conrad’s Season 3 growth as becoming more steadfast in his longing for Belly. Against that change, Belly’s final decision marks a shift from uncertainty about what Conrad can offer to a choice she is ready to make herself.

Why does the finale return Belly to Cousins?
After Paris expands Belly’s world, the ending brings her back to Cousins with Conrad. Han explained her intention this way: “I wanted to see Belly go back home and to her favorite place in the world.” She added that seeing more of the world made Cousins all the more dear to Belly. The return home gives the reunion a sense of emotional continuity without showing the rest of their future.

The television ending and Jenny Han’s third novel share the same broad outcome—Belly and Conrad reunite—but differ in setting, timing, and how much of their future is shown. TIME’s comparison identifies We’ll Always Have Summer as the trilogy’s third book.

Will the movie continue Belly and Conrad’s story?
Amazon announced a feature film directed by Jenny Han to continue Belly’s story. In a September 18, 2025 interview with TheWrap, Han said there is another major milestone in Belly’s journey and that a film could give it room. At that point, she said the movie had a draft and was in early development; she did not give a release timeline or confirm a theatrical release.
Han also said, “The series was all building towards Belly and Conrad’s reunion, and I just didn’t want to take away from that.” The movie is a continuation announced after the series finale; its existence does not undo the reunion the finale shows. The cited announcement and interview do not confirm a release date, full cast, exact plot, or that the film will depict a wedding.
